My Top 50 - 01/06/2019

January 6, 2019 | 50 songs

Halsey returns to #1 with the new year; Taylor Swift's catalogue invades the chart.

"Without Me" returns to #1 for the third non-consecutive week, meaning Halsey crowns the first new weekly chart of the year. It manages to hold off usual suspects: "thank u, next" moves up to #2, while last week's champion "breathin" slides to #3. Both tracks are by Ariana Grande.

"Close To Me" and "Good Grief" hold at their #4 and #5 peaks, respectively. Swae Lee, the featured act on "Close to Me" earns Greatest Gainer honors with his Post Malone collaboration "Sunflower", which moves up 38-24 this week. Bastille on the other hand celebrates two top 10 songs sitting side by side, as "Happier" with Marshmello is up one to #6.

4 Non Blondes' 90s hit "What's Up?" enters top 10 for the first time, up 4 to #7 this week. Just behind, the second biggest hit of last year, "Delicate" rides a wave of plays to a one spot bump to #8. In fact, more below on Taylor Swift...

This ain't 2006, but Panic! At The Disco and Jojo find themselves in the top 10 again, as "High Hopes" drops to #9, while the recently re-recorded "Too Little Too Late" is up two to #10, a new high point for the 2006 gem.

This means that "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart", despite a healthy increase in points, stays locked outside top 10, moving 13-11 on it's fifth week.

Taylor Swift's reputation World Tour debuting on Netflix helps not only "Delicate", but several of her older tracks, led by "Style" which re-enters at #17, "All Too Well" which re-enters at #20 and "Love Story" which enters for the first time at #23, this week's highest debut. "Story" predates this chart. Speak Now cut "Long Live" starts at #30, "You Belong With Me" starts at #33, "Mine" enters for the first time at #36, #1 hit "Look What You Made Me Do" re-enters at #40, while "End Game" and "...Ready for It?", the follow-up singles from reputation re-enter at #44 and #46. All this T-Swift action means that nothing outside of the top 15 moves up, except for Greatest Gainer "Sunflower". This is particularly hard on tracks with a bullet like "Money" by Cardi B, which had it's best week so far points-wise and yet it stays at #37, well below it's #23 peak.
