Braintree Top 40

This week on the Braintree Top 40, Clean Bandit reigns for a 2nd week in a row with “I Miss You” featuring Julia Michaels.  After another fierce battle for the top, Caro Emerald has to settle for #2 again as “Tangled Up” gets blocked by the tearful dance ballad.  The top 5 remains unchanged from last week.

While many were expecting multiple lofty debuts from Taylor Swift, who already has two #1s under her belt, but with her new album reputation only out for purchase, her plays suffered.  While she did receive the Highest Debut of the Week with “This Is How We Can’t Have Nice Things” at #8 followed by “New Year’s Day,” the rest of the album was left off the chart.  There are rumors that the album will be released on Spotify next week, so we’ll see if she can have her blockbuster week then.

For another week in a row, poor Emm!e has continued her #monasticlife as she refuses to allow music to hit her ears.  While she did not scrobble any plays on last.fm, I did put her down for one play for “New Year’s Day” as she watched the live performance of the song on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, providing Swift the boost she needed to debut at #9.

Aside from Daina’s impressive contribution to “Tangled Up,” she unfortunately is unable to push any other song onto the chart.  She came close with Sheppard’s “Keep Me Crazy” and Red Velvet’s “Red Flavor,” but just missed out.

After the week Celina has, it’s no wonder a multitude of break-up songs hit the chart.  Celina aided in the debuts of “Don’t Say You Love Me” by Fifth Harmony and “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus at #30 and #34 respectively.

Emily wasn’t able to head her own entry onto the chart, but did provide a boost to “Strangers” by Sigrid, which debuts at #24 this week.  Sigrid is best known in Braintree for her spring hit, “Plot Twist.”  She also keeps “New Rules” in the top ten for another week, this time coming at #7.

Looking at next week, we have (hopefully) Taylor Swift’s new album arriving on Spotify, which will give Braintree something to gobble up.  Speaking of gobbling, it’s Thanksgiving next week!  Could Christmas music make its debut already?  Find out next week!
