After all the talk of major shake-ups last week, Dua Lipa prevailed as "Don't Start Now" continues its reign for the third straight week, thanks to Josh & Emily. HAIM moves earns their highest peak ever as "Now I'm IN It" skips to #2, thanks to Mike Maguire, while "modern anxiety" jumps to #3, also thanks to Josh & Emily. This is Josef Salvat's first top five in Braintree. What looked to be a sure thing the beginning of the week, thansk to Tanya, ends with "Lose You to Love" dropping to #4. Rounding out the top five is "Lights Up," which got a boost from Harry Styles hosting SNL this week with rave reviews.
The only new addition to the top ten is "My Own Dance," which becomes Kesha's 12th top ten as she now climbs to 2nd for Most Top Tens Ever behind Taylor Swift's 14. This is thanks to Daina, who spun this track 18 times in just 24 hours to give it a #7 debut. Watch out for this one, as it could take the #1 spot quite easily.
Celina gets Billie EIlish back onto the chart with "when the party's over," which re-enters at a new peak of #12. She also keeps "Dance Monkey" afloat and gets Lewis Capaldi a new debut with "Before You Go" at #20. Emm!e's only contributions were a single play for our Manc King Aitch's "Strike a Pose," which finds itself dropping to #21 and a single play for Rina Sawayama's "STFU!," our Bubbling Under leader. Emily was responsible for "Mean It" debuting at #13 by Lauv & LANY while Mike Maguire is credited to HAIM's "Hallelujah" and Grimes's "So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth" debuts at #16 and 25, respectively. Catie still bopped to "HIgher Love" this week, but not as much, as the track tumbles down to #27. Mike McCarthy continues to keep Frank Ocean in business as "In My Room" and "DHL" both cling to the chart at #22 and 37, respectively. Tanya continues to be a powerhouse as she contrinutes to nearly half of the songs on the chart. Her personal #1 this week? That's "Trigger," which stays in the top ten at #10 solely because of her. She also gave Harry Styles's newest single, "Watermelon Sugar" a nice debut at #15. Victoria looks to be plotting a return to the chart as she brings Idina Menzel onto the Bubbling Under at #5 with "I Stand".
#FlashbackFriday goes to King Princess, who earned her 2nd top ten a year ago with "Pussy Is God". THe song ended up spending 2 weeks at #10 and cemented itself as her biggest hit in Braintree after "1950".
Next week looks to be a little interesting as we see new releases from ZieZie & Aitch & Little Mix as well as the ringing in of the holiday season. Who will be the first one to put a holiday song on the chart and which song will it be? All signs point to Victoria or Daina but Josh has been sneakily listening to holiday music since just after Halloween, so who knows. We also have the battle for #1 heating up as Kesha attempts to earn her 4th #1 while Josef Salvat, HAIM, Harry Styles, and Selena Gomez all aim for their 1st. Find out next week on the Braintree Top 40!
