Braintree Top 40

After weeks of laying dormant and biding her time, Daina finally made her move on the Braintree Top 40 and what a shake-up it was!  Most notably, she gives Air Traffic Controller a #1 debut with “This Is Love.”  This is the second time Daina has provided a #1 debut, the first of which being “Jolene” by Dolly Parton which shockingly blocked “Look What You Made Me Do” from the top spot.  She also gets a top 5 debut with “Bad Habits” by The Federal Empire.  Aside from those two debuts, she also pushes “IDGAF” back its #2 peak.  Could next week finally be the one for Dua Lipa?

Daina wasn’t the only one who had a hand in the landscape of the top ten as Tove Styrke debuts at #6 with “Changed My Mind,” thanks to Emily.  This is Tove Styrke’s 2nd top ten after “Mistakes peaked at #4 back in October.  She also gives Betty Who another healthy push back into the top ten with a new #7 peak.

This week, we welcome our Canadian friend, Breagh, to the Braintree Top 40!  Unfortunately, she didn’t have much influence in such a competitive week, although she did manage to keep “New Rules” on the chart at #32 and attributed to “IDGAF”’s jump to #2.  We cannot wait to see what music tastes you’ll offer us in the future!

Emm!e had a quiet week although she did help Emily get Vance Joy to connect with “Saturday Sun,” which debuts at #14.  Celina stayed on the “Never Enough” ship, except she didn’t realize it was a sinking one.  The #2-peaking song tumbles down to #26 in its 3rd week.  In fact, it was a sad week for The Greatest Showman, which could only manage 3 entries, “Never Enough,” “The Greatest Show,” & “Rewrite the Stars.”  Not even a viewing from Emily could help the soundtrack maintain its dominance this week.

Speaking of soundtracks, Fifty Shades Freed is taking over as the top soundtrack in Braintree as it posts two entries with “For You (Fifty Shades Freed)” and “Capital Letters” at #11 and #13 respectively.  The full soundtrack comes out on Friday which sees new songs from Braintree darlings Dua Lipa and Julia Michaels that will surely be contenders next week.

Iggy Azalea gets her first entry with “Savior” after narrowly missing the Top 40 with “Switch” for weeks on end.  The song debuts at #23 and features Quavo.  Noah Cyrus also gets her first entry with “We Are…” which debuts at #16.  Finally, we have the next Dua Lipa waiting in the wings with Hayley Kiyoko, an openly gay woman of Asian descent (a very rare combination in the music industry), who debuts at #24 with “Curious,” a song that has the makings of being the next “New Rules.”

Next week, we see the arrival of Fifty Shades Freed as mentioned above as well as the new Calvin Harris song featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR, who previously peaked at #11 with “Damage.”  We also see new tracks from James Bay, MGMT, Ne-Yo and Korean girl group TWICE that could make a bid for the Top 40 next week.  Will Daina continue to chart the course or will a new champion emerge, possibly Breagh?
