Braintree Top 40

Dua Lipa has broken her one-week #1 streak as “One Kiss” proves to be more than a flash in the pan with its 2nd week atop the Braintree Top 40.  Dua Lipa previously reigned for one week each with “New Rules” and “IDGAF”, making “One Kiss” her longest-running #1 to-date.  It was a close race with Nicki Minaj’s “Barbie Tingz” but the lack of support by Daina proved fatal to the queen of rap as it only manages to hit #2.  Minaj is actually stuck in a Dua Lipa sandwich as Breagh boosts her girl crush all the way back up to #3 in its 29th week on the chart, 2nd only to “New Rules” at 31 weeks.

Elsewhere in the top ten, we see Tove Styrke get her 3rd top ten with “On the Low” at #4.  Taylor Swift also racks up another one for a total of 7 as “Delicate” rises to #5.  Finally, “Psycho” returns to its #10 peak as we gear up for the release of Post Malone new album, Beerbongs & Bentleys, next week.

There are plenty of notable debuts this week as the play counts stay high all around.  The highest debut comes from Nicki Minaj’s “Chun-Li”, the other half of the dual single release from last week, at lucky #13.  5 Seconds of Summer, Janelle Monae, and Lorde all get their 2nd top 40 hit this week, all coming in at various spots I don’t feel like listening at the moment.  Sigrid not only gets her 2nd hit, but also her 3rd this week as “High Five” and “Don’t Kill My Vibe” debut at #30 and 32, respectively.  Another notable debut comes from Stromae, whose French song “Alors on danse” from 2009 makes a surprising appearance at #30.  This is due to being performed at the ballroom dancing expo that Josh, Emily, and Breagh attended. Can it continue the climb or is it simply a one-week wonder?

As we go around the horn, Emm!e gives Lil Uzi Vert his first hit with “The Way Life Goes” at #34.  Daina continues her quest for eternal happiness free from the shackles of music as she lives the #monasticlife for a third straight week.  While Celina gave the “Heat” to Kelly Clarkson last week, she failed to deliver this time, as “Heat” tumbles 4-35. Emily spun the Braintree Top 40 as well as New Music Friday, which helped secure Florence + the Machine their 1st spot with “sky full of song” at #23.  It was Breagh who won chart MVP however, as she successfully brought back two Taylor Swift songs from the dead (“Don’t Blame Me” and “Look What You Made Me Do”) as well as get Alabama Shakes to return and keep Chance the Rapper in the top 40.  She is also responsible for “One Kiss” being so dominant as it was the highest play count for a song in a single week by Breagh (or should I say “Breagh Lipa”).

Next week, we see the surprise release of Ariana Grande’s new single, “No More Tears Left to Cry” which is sure to challenge for the top spot as it deals with the Manchester bombing.  We also have new music from Liam Payne & J Balvin, Khalid, PRETTYMUCH, and The Vamps. Can Breagh help “One Kiss” continue its reign at the top or will Ariana Grande have something to say about it?  And will Daina finally return to the sound of music? Find out next week!
