What an exciting week on the Braintree Top 40! Not only did we add a member (welcome, Sara!) but almost everyone influenced the chart this week in big ways. First up, the #1 this week is none other than Jess Glynne’s “I’ll Be There” for the 4th weeks, thanks to Josh and Celina. “I’ll Be There” joins “One Kiss” and “I Miss You” as the 2nd-longest running #1 ever. We’ll see if it can catch “The Middle” with six weeks (which coincidentally re-enters at #29, thanks to Emm!e). Julia Michaels makes a big “Jump” to #2 after falling off the chart last week, thanks to Josh and Emm!e. This is her 2nd top five hit after being featured on “I Miss You” with Clean Bandit. Kanye West also leaps into the top five with “Ghost Town” thanks mostly to Catie, but also Emily and Breagh. Kanye West has the most entries this week as 6 of his previous 7 songs hold on. “La Cintura” hits a new peak of #4 thanks to Emily while “Sangria Wine” makes the top five for the first time, becoming Camila Cabello’s 2nd after the #1 “Havana”.
Elsewhere in the top ten, “One Kiss” makes the 3rd largest drop from #1 as it tumbles all the way down to #10. Only “Jolene” and “This is Love” have fallen harder – going from #1 to off the chart completely the next week. The highest debut of the week goes to “Fake Love” by K-Pop supergroup BTS, which comes in at #11 thanks to Emm!e. The only other debut belongs to MNEK and Hailee Steinfeld, as “Colour” debuts at #34. Both are no stranger to the Braintree Top 40, having reached the top ten five with “Tongue” and “Let Me Go”, respectively.
Emm!e was a powerhouse this week as she continues to discover all the songs she read while roadtripping to Portsmouth with Josh and Celina for Emily and Mike’s wedding. Such songs include “Jump,” “Bloom,” “What I Need,” and “Girls”. Daina jammed out to Steven Universe and Marina & the Diamonds yet again this week, which unfortunately doesn’t jive with anyone else and did not impact the chart. Celina was essentially a Josh-proxy again as he controlled most of her music while driving. She did play “I’ll Be There” on repeat all on her own, so we commend her for that! Emily played Josh-curated playlists, adding to the total of plenty of songs this week. She also spun the entire Kanye West album, which is surprising (although maybe Mike was in the car). Catie listened to nothing but Kanye West and Kid Cudi, as evidenced by the copious amount of Kanye this week. Breagh listened to Florence + the Machine, Elton John, and Led Zeppelin yet again this week, but it was her minimal play of the Braintree Top 40 playlist that pushed some songs up the chart like “Solo” and “Sangria Wine.”
Everyone, please welcome Sara to the Braintree Top 40! While she was unable to influence the chart this week as her tastes did not match up with anyone and only listened to music sparingly throughout the week, she is sure to make a splash at some point. Just look at Catie, who’s contending for the top spot after her initial weeks saw little to no influence.
Next week, we see TWO new songs from Ariana, one with Troye Sivan and one with Nicki Minaj. We also see 5 Seconds of Summer and Christina Aguilera drop their albums, which could see some traction on the chart. New singles from Alessia Cara, Martin Garrix & Khalid, and Rudimental, Anne-Marie, and Major Lazer could all be contenders for the top spot next week as “I’ll Be There” attempts to get a 5th week at #1.
I'm also introducing the Braintree Bubbling Under, which are 5 songs added to the end of the Spotify playlist that have not yet debuted on the Top 40 and just missed it. Here is this week's top 5:
1. Tove Lo - bitches (feat. Charli XCX, Icona Pop, Elliphant & ALMA)
2. Bebe Rexha - 2 Souls on Fire (feat. Quavo)
3. Nicki Minaj - Bed (feat. Ariana Grande)
4. Dan + Shay - Tequila
5. Anne-Marie - Can I Get Your Number
