After a fierce battle for #1, it's Ariana Grande's self-help breakup song that takes the top spot this week, aided by her performance on Ellen as well as multiple requests for repeat listens at Josh's housewarming party. This is now Ariana Grande's 3rd #1 after "Santa Tell Me" and "no tears left to cry" both debuted at #1. This now puts her in 2nd place for Most #1s behind Dua Lipa, who earned her record-extending 5th #1 last week. Daina proved to be a major player again this week as she kept 3 songs in heavy rotation all week. They closely follow the leader as "Kiss and Make Up" descends 1, "Party For One" ascends 1, and "Baby" jumps 18 positions, becoming Marina & the Diamonds highest peak to-date. At #5, we have Halsey's "Without Me," which got major support from Breagh, who has a new found love for Halsey. Emm!e still has not jumped on the new record by her once-favorite singer. If she does, could Halsey finally get to #1?
Just outside the top ten, we have King Princess's 2nd single, "Pussy Is God," make a huge jump to #13, up 18 spots. We also see Post Malone and Swae Lee's "Sunflower" skip up to #15. Out biggest debut of the week comes from UK superstar, Cheryl, with "Love Made Me Do It" at #24. While she gets a fair bit of hate in her native UK due to the questionable relationships (she's Liam Payne's baby mama) and racist comments she's made on air, as well as a long-time feud with former bandmate Nadine, she has found love in Braintree. Another big debut is "Velvet Elvis" by Kacey Musgraves. It just so happens that Kacey won the CMA Award for Album of the Year last night for Golden Hour, which spawned the #7 hit, "High Horse," earlier this year.
Emm!e did literally nothing again this week except sit in traffic. As mentioned earlier, Daina listened to 3 songs all week long. Celina got her favorite Kelly Clarkson song to re-enter as "Heat" returns at #23 after peaking at #2 earlier in the year. Emily got two more Ellie Goulding songs to chart and also got "Codes" to move up 2 spots. Unfortunately, "Close to Me" got pushed out of the top ten, thanks to Daina and her love for "Baby". Breagh got 2 Shannon and the Clams songs to chart as well as 1 in the Bubbling Under. After two big weeks with the Boys, Catie has finally cooled down and returned to her minimal music habits. Conversely, Sara had a big week as her top song of the week was former chart topper "Electricity" by Silk City & Dua Lipa! There is a reasonable explanation for this however, and it is because Sara hosted a wonderful and highly successful Friendsgiving this past weekend with a playlist borrowed heavily from the Braintree Top 40. So while it may look like Sara had a major influence on the chart, was it really her?
Next week, we see the release of the LM5, the new Little Mix album, which is sure to cause a stir. Every track that's been released already has seen critically acclaimed in Braintree, so it stands to reason that the rest of the album will do well. We also see new songs from Normani & 6lack, Broods, and The Chainsmokers. We also see a new album from Mariah Carey, but it's not Christmas-themed, so it most likely will not do well here. Can Ariana Grande hold the top spot or will we say "thank u, next" to her? Can Dua Lipa return to her home or will Little Mix get their first #1, aided by their new album? FInd out next week on the Braintree Top 40!
