Wolves reclaims #1; One Foot hits top 3 & Kylie returns.
Chart Champion
Continuing its record-breaking run, "Wolves" by Selena Gomez and Marshmello climbs two places this week, spending its 11th non-consecutive week at #1. The song has charted for 14 weeks and has not dropped out of the top 3 since its release. If "Wolves" remains on the chart for many weeks to come (which looks likely), it could become Gomez' biggest hit yet. Gomez and Marshmello have benefited from a lack of competition for the past 14 weeks; since Taylor Swifts "reputation", there has not been a huge, impactful release. Whatever Gomez does next, it is almost guaranteed for it to hit the top once again. On the other hand, Marshmello has already dropped another track, "Spotlight", but it has failed to enter the chart.
New Peaks
It was a big week for WALK THE MOON as "One Foot" leapt ten places to #2. This is the song's third week on the chart and after falling out of the top 10 last week, a climb this week was unexpected. This is a new peak for the song; its previous high point was #5. Demi Lovato's "Tell Me You Love Me" reached a new peak of #6 last week and it continues to rise this week too; the song is up one spot to #5. "Tell Me You Love Me" is officially a top 5 hit. This is the song's 5th week on the chart and has now reached certified 'hit' status. Lovato's follow-up to the smash "Sorry Not Sorry" may be a sleeper but it's a sleeper hit! Last week, a big jump was expected from "Decline" by RAYE and Mr Eazi; a week later, the song soared from 19-6. That is a 13-spot jump, one of the biggest climbs the chart has ever seen. "Decline" is now at #6, a new peak and has spent two weeks on the chart.
New Entries
The highest new entry this week is "Dancing" by Kylie Minogue. The pop legend returned to music with an uplifting and somewhat cheesy banger - what she is known for! "Dancing" is new at #3; it will be interesting to see if the song has longevity or if it was incredibly front-loaded. "Get On Your Knees" by Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande made its chart debut this week. Despite being released in December 2014, the song randomly entered at #4 this week. As this was an unexpected entry, it will not be too surprising if the song is nowhere to be seen next week. "Come Alive", another song from "The Greatest Showman" soundtrack, enters the chart for the first time; it is new at #13. Finally, Anne-Marie's "Ciao Adios" finally hit the top 20; it has been bubbling under for weeks, but Anne-Marie can finally celebrate the song becoming a top 20 hit, new at #17.
Re-entries
There were four re-entries this week. The highest re-entry is "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" by Taylor Swift. The song returns at #7. It has now spent ten weeks on the chart, officially certified as a 'Bit Hit'. Taylor Swift also returns with "New Year's Day" at #12. The song has previously peaked at #6 and has now spent four non-consecutive weeks on the chart. After peaking at #4 a few weeks ago, "For You" by Rita Ora and Liam Payne completely dropped out of the chart. However, it is back to #16 this week. Finally, "Good as Hell" by Lizzo re-enters at #20 and has spent nine weeks on the chart, a week away from a new certification.
Inside the Top 10
Justin Timberlake's "Filthy" falls a much lighter one spot this week (after a steep decline last time) to #8. The former #1 has now spent three weeks on the chart. Taylor Swift's "...Ready for It?" continues to prove its longevity, climbing one place to #9. The song has now spent 15 weeks on the chart. "I Miss You" by Clean Bandit, and Julia Michaels jumps six places back into the top 10 to #10. This is the song's 7th charted week.
Outside the Top 10
Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Future fall two places to #11. "End Game" has spent nine weeks on the chart, a week away from its next chart certification. Last week, Camila Cabello's debut album "Camila" impacted the chart, quite a few tracks entered. The week after, two remain. "Consequences" drops six places to #14 (peaked at #8) and last week's number 1, "Into It" slides 14 places down the chart to #15. Cabello's "Crying in the Club" also dropped a steep seven spots to #18 (21 weeks). Finally, Demi Lovato's "Daddy Issues" plummeted 14 places to #19 (8 weeks).
This week in 2017
This week in 2017, "Paris" by The Chainsmokers remained at #1. Both the #1 of 2017 and 2018 are dance songs. Selena Gomez features in both charts with "Like A Champion", "Good For You" and "Hit the Lights" in 2017 and "Wolves" in 2018. Camila Cabello is also present in both charts, "Bad Things" in 2017 (and Fifth Harmony's "Brave Honest Beautiful") and "Consequences" and "Into It" in 2018. Demi Lovato makes appearances in 2017 and 2018 with "Skyscraper" (2017) and "Tell Me You Love Me" and "Daddy Issues" in 2018. Ed Sheeran is also on both charts (Castle on the Hill/End Game).
