Chart

James' Top 40 - April 8, 2015

Another 6 new entries!

Notes:

  • Big Data leads the chart again this week with "The Business of Emotion" (feat. White Sea), leading for its fourth nonconsecutive week. Next week will be a duel between this, "Lampshades on Fire", and possibly the return of "A Taste of Silver" for #1.
  • Red picks up 7-6 this week with "Darkest Part" for a new peak. The song has been steadily gaining, but it's starting to come down to earth after a really hot start. This could lift into the Top 5 next week if "Billion" (4-5) puts up another negative week, but could be blocked out by "Talking Body".
  • "Talking Body" by: Tove Lo looks like it's starting to finally gain its legs. It climbs 9-7 this week for a new peak. It's been a long-time coming for the track, but it finally looks to stay positive. It is climbing due in part to some songs that are starting to fall, but hey, it's still counts, right? This will battle with "Billion" and "Darkest Part" for the #5 spot next week ("Satellite" is a little further ahead, but still attainable).
  • Cold War Kids lift into the Top 10 with their third straight entry as "First" comes in at #10 this week. This should be able to stay into the Top 10 unless the songs below pick up more, which is a possibility. It still doesn't look like this'll have the same success as "All This Could Be Yours" (31-37) and "Go Quietly" (28-31), but this should still see success nonetheless.
  • Big Data has an up and down week this week with the rest of his songs. "Clean" (feat. Jamie Lidell) and "The Glow" (feat. Kimbra) rise this week, going 13-11 and 20-16 respectively. Both should still see success going forward, and could be good album tracks (both could be singles too). Everything else from the album that debuted/re-entered fell off with the exception of "Sick For Me" (feat. Bear Hands), which falls 33-36, and isn't looking likely to stay another week.
  • "Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)" by: AWOLNATION rebounds this week after falling a bit, climbing 16-12 for a new peak. This'll look for the Top 10 next week, but it is starting to lose the momentum it had when their album was released. This doesn't look like the future #1 it was shaping out to be when it first debuted.
  • "Contagious" by: Night Riots climbs 18-17 this week for a new peak. This one is starting to lose its steam, and these next few weeks will be challenging for the song as the negative songs are starting to diminish.
  • Zac Brown Band (feat. Chris Cornell) rises into the Top 20 this week with "Heavy Is the Head" climbing 26-20 for a new peak. It puts up a small increase this week, but it was able to benefit off of the ones starting to be purged. This one is shaping to be a mid-teens peaker, but it does have the potential to breakout.
  • Despite putting up a negative update, Thousand Foot Krutch climbs 23-21 with "Untraveled Road" for a new peak. Like "Contagious", this has a challenge ahead of it as the momentum for the song is starting to falter a bit. Top 20 might be possible next week with "Karaoke" (12-18) dropping hard, but this might be passed up beforehand.
  • "Desire" by: Years & Years takes a huge climb this week, going 29-22 for a new peak. This is another right place at the right time song, but this one earned it more than some of the other this week. This'll seek the Top 20 this week, and it looks pretty attainable. "King" spends yet another week on On the Rise, and it might be staying there for awhile, as it's not putting up enough to debut. Since it is the US single, and not this, it will probably end up debuting sooner or later.
  • CRUISR climbs into the Top 30 with "All Over" blasting 34-28 for a new peak. It took a hit last week, but as thought, it was able to rebound. This still has the potential to be big, and it looks this should be a steady gainer for the time being.
  • J. Cole reenters the chart this week with "Wet Dreamz" coming in hot at #32. It peaked at #4 not too long ago, before dropping like a rock...hard. This had a huge fallout, but was able to reenter fairly quick with the announcement of it being the next single. To be honest, this has a shot to best its peak, but it'll take some time. Future #1?
  • As Bad Suns looks to be done with one, they add another: "Dancing on Quicksand" debuts at #33 this week. This showed up on On the Rise back when Language & Perspective came out, and it always looked like this would be a huge hit when it would be a single. Now that it is, this should be huge on my chart (and hopefully on Alt?). This actually wasn't looking to debut up until Monday. The past two days, this has seen a great update. It picked up at least a 15 play increase this week, and 9 of those coming in the past two days. Watch out, this could give J. Cole a run for his money in 2 months.
  • Calvin Harris debuts his 5th song from Motion this week as "Open Wide" (feat. Big Sean) debuts at #35. Now come a few weeks ago, this was about to be removed from my playlist. I got a new stereo in my car, and I have been bumping this a lot lately. This was my test song for my new EQ, and I guess it resparked for me. It's unknown how long this'll stay, but it'll enjoy the ride for now. Calvin could be reentering soon with "Pray to God" (peaked at #30 in the unpublished Top 40 test weeks) as it is the next US single.
  • #38-#40 are all debuts this week. Saint Motel leads the way of them with "My Type", which debuts with a 15 play count. It doesn't have a full week under its belt, so this could breakout next week. "Dead Inside" by: Muse is at #39, and is the first from Drones to debut ("Psycho" was on On the Rise for a bit). This'll look to climb. Muse hasn't had a song chart before this, but "Madness" did hit On the Rise. Brandon Flowers takes the #40 spot with "Can't Deny My Love". Like Muse, this is Brandon Flowers' first song to chart, but he has two songs with The Killers that were On the Rise charters, "Runaways" and "The Way It Was". If I had a chart back in my childhood, they would have a good track record ("Mr. Brightside", "Somebody Told Me", "When You Were Young", "Human").
  • Next week could be yet another big week, as Sam Hunt and Alesso are so far looking like easy debuts. But there could be even more. Another 6 doesn't look like it'll happen, but a decent number is possible.
