James' Top 40 - June 24, 2015

3 more debuts!

Notes:

  • Saint Motel hold their 4th week atop with "My Type", but things are getting closer between the song and "A Taste of Silver" (#2). "A Taste of Silver" puts up a bigger play increase (+7 vs. +4), and is looking to go on the top of the chart for a third reign. "My Type" is far from over, so it could still find a way to hold the top as now there doesn't look to be immediate threats besides "A Taste of Silver", as "Halo" (#3) and "Crave" (#5) have stalled a bit.
  • While Until the Ribbon Breaks holds strong at #2, they move up with "Pressure" going 9-6 for a new peak. Before, it looked like it might peak in the bottom of the Top 10, but it gained some life at the end of the week. With the next 3 songs above it moving slower than it, it could possibly blast into the Top 3 next week if it can perform well. UTRB also re-enters the Top 10 with "Perspective" going 11-10. That one will look to best its #7 peak, but it probably won't be able to do it by much.
  • "Cheyenne" falls short of the Top 10 this week, as it goes 13-11, but for a new peak. It put up a rather lackluster week this week, so it'll look to get back on track next week (this seems to be happening with songs that have hot starts). This could enter the Top 10 next week if "Perspective" doesn't move up, or if "Shut Up and Dance" takes a fall out of the Top 10 for its first time in its run.
  • "Shots" enters the Top 20, going 21-19 for a new peak. The updates are getting smaller for the track, and it's looking more likely that it will peak very similarly to "I Bet My Life" (#15). This still has life left to go though.
  • The top debut this week belongs to Stellar Revival with "Watch You Walk Away" coming in hot at #29. This was a big surprise, as they released their long-delayed album, Love, Lust and Bad Company, last month and I had no clue until last Friday. I only bought this one so far, so this will be getting the attention, but more songs could appear if I decide to buy the album. These guys were originally ones to look out for back in 2013, as "The Crazy Ones" peaked at #8 and "Saving Grace" at #17, but Capitol delayed their album before ultimately dropping them, and they even broke up (they still are done). I was very surprised the album came out, but the band got the distribution rights and released it after fans were begging for it. They are pretty much another Nickelback, but something about them sticks for me (as other NB copycats seem to do).
  • "Not Letting Go" enters the Top 30 this week, going 33-30 for a new peak. This should be able to do some damage, but it will more than likely take a few more weeks before it takes off.
  • The #39 and #40 spots are debuts as well, as The Weeknd and twenty one pilots score debuts this week in those positions respectively. "Can't Feel My Face" is looking to be a summer smash, but it might not be like that on my chart. Time will tell though. This is The Weeknd's third charter (second as main artist), as it joins "Wanderlust", which peaked at #13. He charted with Ariana Grande's "Love Me Harder" last year and this year, which peaked at #6. "Ride" debuts this week, as this one will look to right the ship that "Tear In My Heart" was not able to accomplish. I couldn't get into that one, so I guess I'll play this as a single. It'll probably be a future single anyways, so this could be similar to "Wet Dreamz" (though this won't peak that high).
