Chart

James' Top 40 - May 13, 2015

6 new entries! Six! And there wasn't even an album released this week.

Notes:

  •   "A Taste of Silver" stretches its weeks atop to double digits, as it now has spent 10 weeks atop the chart. This'll probably be the last week for it as "First" (#2) is looking like next week's #1.
  • Zac Brown Band has two songs climb this week, but the rest from last week fall off and/or drop positions. "Heavy Is the Head" goes 4-3 this week for a new peak. It just edged out "Shut Up and Dance" (3-4), but it looks like this'll be the highest it climbs. It doesn't have the momentum the album was giving it anymore, so it will have to climb on its own from now on. "Loving You Easy" climbs into the Top 30, going 32-30. "Beautiful Drug" (31-38) drops, and "Junkyard" and "Homegrown" fall off.
  • Bad Suns climb into the Top 5 with "Dancing on Quicksand", moving 6-5 for a new peak. Things are looking worse now as it has stalled since a fiery start. It doesn't have the #1 picture in it, but it could best "Salt"'s #4 peak, which falls off this week.
  • "My Type" climbs 9-6 for a new peak. This one has its eyes on the top as it keeps climbing. There's no dominant #1 at the moment, so it could get a week, but that should change pretty soon.
  • Until the Ribbon Breaks climbs into the Top 10 with their third one in the region, as "Perspective" climbs 14-10. This one doesn't have a clear future just yet, since "Pressure" (25-22) is starting to make its gains. Both should see success, and "Pressure" could see the Top 10 as well.
  • "Dead Inside" and "Halo" both move into the Top 20 this week, together again, climbing 23-19 and 21-20 respectively. "Dead Inside" climbs above "Halo" though, as "Halo" was above it every time. Both should see mid-teens success, but a Top 10 showing is very possible for both.
  • Two big debuts come in that skip over On the Rise: "Crave" by: Parachute (#24) and "Freedom" by: Allen Stone (#26). Both were ineligible to chart prior to this week since they were not on my iTunes, but I have been streaming them a lot on All Access, where most of their plays come from. They both pick up about 15 plays each from the last two days alone though. These are both #1 contenders, and long ones at that, and they should be in high battle with each other their whole ride there. "Crave" gets the upperhand for being a little older though.
  • Action Bronson & Chance the Rapper make their chart debuts with "Baby Blue" coming in at #29. The track had a big first few days, but cooled off a bit, but still has a great start. This looks like a big chart runner as well. Top 5 looks great, but who knows if this'll stall or not.
  • As Cold War Kids are looking at their first #1 with "First" (hehe) next week, they look to extend their Top 5 streak with "Thunder Hearts" debuting this week at #33. When this appeared on On the Rise a few weeks ago, it looked like a charter, but would ruin their streak by being on the chart for a few weeks and falling off. But now that has changed and could extend their streak. I'm falling in love with it and it might turn into my favorite song of theirs. This should climb hard these next few weeks. Watch out Until the Ribbon Breaks, Cold War Kids are looking to take the Artist of the Year crown for 2015.
  • Nickelback tacks on another track, as "Get 'Em Up" reenters this week at #38. This peaked at #9 last November when it was released as an instant grat, and now that it is a single, it'll look to best that. This one doesn't have the momentum that previous singles had, so this might be looking at a lengthy run, which could have great results or bad results. "She Keeps Me Up" looks like it'll be gone next week or the week after, but "Satellite" should probably rebound as now it is the next single in the US. We'll see what happens.
  • "Shots" reenters the chart at #40 this week, just as "I Bet My Life" (30-39) is about to be purged off the chart. This peaked at #39 when the album was released, but now it finally reenters despite being a single for awhile, and actually starting to fall on Alternative radio. This could be like "I Bet My Life" and make up for lost time with a decent peak, but be purged after it hits its ceiling.
  • "The Wolf" falls off the chart from #37, peaking there as well. Its run is pretty much on point with "Can't Deny My Love" where it just couldn't get anything going. With the 6 debuts this week, it was hard to keep it on. This one could reenter, but who knows since I said that about "Can't Deny My Love" and that has just completely dropped off the radar.
