Chart

James' Top 70

In Memoriam:

Today we say goodbye to a long runner. "End of the World" by: Dirty Heads falls off the chart after just hitting the one year mark. It just couldn't hold on for a 53rd week. The song had one of the most torrid runs to start its chart run, as it went 30-9-1-1-1. It lasted just three weeks atop the chart though because SafetySuit released a new song ("Heart Attack") that hurt it. Still, this one held up nicely. It actually didn't last all that long in the Top 10 (17 weeks), as most of its time was spent in the #11-#20 range after it fell out. Now Dirty Heads will be looking foward with their new single "That's All I Need", which picks up into the Top 40 this week, and potentially another next week with "Oxygen", which has huge potential to maybe live up to the pipe dream that "End of the World" set for the band.

Notes:

  • "Mayday" keeps up the pace, as now it leads for a 14th week. This should stick for at least next week before a new challenger approaches. Though, it still looks like this has a few weeks left in it.
  • Young The Giant blast into the Top 10 with "Something to Believe In", as it goes 11-6 for a new peak. This is looking to finally dethrone Cam from the top spot soon, as this should hit the Top 3 next week. It might hold off in the #2 spot for a bit though before "Mayday" can finally fall considering how far ahead it is.
  • "Looking Up" falls out of the Top 10 for the first time in its chart run after 37 weeks inside the Top 10. With the increased competition, it will likely not re-enter the Top 10. "Pause" (22-21) has been moving at snails pace, but it could start to see some action soon. It could probably set the slowest climb to the Top 10 record if it can get there. For arguably the biggest artist to grace the charts, it has been performing poorly. It should hit the Top 10, but if SafetySuit releases a new single before it can get there, it will probably be the end of the road unless the album follows quickly after where it will get spins.
  • As "MAD AT YOU" falls from the chart, 3OH!3 is setting themselves up with another hit with "HEAR ME NOW", which climbs 25-19 for a new peak. This is looking like an eventual Top 10 hit for the duo, and it could do so very soon considering the songs above it aren't particularly at their strong points.
  • "Get You Home" is finally starting to shine, as it has been hitting a stride lately, as now it goes 35-27 for a new peak. This one should become a good hit for Nick, and it definitely has the potential to go Top 10. His debut album Hurricane comes out in a few weeks, so it should get a boost from that soon.
  • Dirty Heads are looking to shine on their own now that "End of the World" is gone, as now "That's All I Need" has a breakout week this week, as it goes 44-37 for a new peak. It was aided a bit by the premiere of their album, but it got a good amount of spins this week to keep it going. I'm back to listening to my big playlist that holds all the songs I'm liking at the moment, rather than making a playlist for newer songs, and this one was helped a lot. Next week should be another good move for the song, and its projection is looking at the Top 20 now. Next week Dirty Heads could be seeing their next "End of the World" as "Oxygen" is poised for a big debut next week. I held off on debuting it this week to get a full week in, so next week could be a solid Top 40 debut. One thing to look out for is to see if "Oxygen" ends up killing off "That's All I Need" in the future, but both are very different sounding songs, so they could both chart concurrently.
  • The top debut this week belongs to USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker), as they finally debut "Damini" at #64. It first appeared on On the Rise in September 2015 and has been on and off since then quite a bit of times. I recently got back into this and despite it being a 5 year old song, it still sounds very current. This might not actually last long because USS is planning on releasing a new single potentially tomorrow, so that might cannibalize this. The new single isn't a for sure debut because I don't really know what to expect, so "Damini"'s chart run is questionable at the moment.
  • The Lumineers follow up "Ophelia" (#55) with the title track to their latest album "Cleopatra" at #65. "Cleopatra" had a very debut this week as there wasn't much competition (kind of why all four debuted this week), but this has the chance at blossoming into a good hit for them. It's a very beautifully written song, and I've been loving it more and more with each listen. For now, Top 40 is where it could peak, but there is definitely a high ceiling here.
  • "Church Bells" finally debuts at #67 this week, as it spent 6 weeks on On the Rise. This was helped by the fact that there weren't many songs looking to debut this week with songs that were looking to fall, so this one was able to fill the void. This definitely won't be able to match "Heartbeat"'s #12 peak, but this could do well now that it is finally charting.
  • "Hole In My Heart" re-enters the chart this week to finally serve as the follow-up to "Surviving" (#16). This was in competition with "Lies" (#38), which had previously charted and went recurrent, and "Can't Help Myself" for the next single, but this was ultimately chosen after I started crying in the car to this the other day lol. It struck a chord. I'm not too sure how this will fare just yet, but for now, it'll be looking to pass its #59 peak it set when it first appeared on the chart following the extension.
