Chart

James' Top 70 - August 18, 2016

Young The Giant hold on top with "Something to Believe In", while also debuting a song from their new album Home of the Strange, and some more on On the Rise.

Notes:

  • Young The Giant holds the top spot this week with "Something to Believe In" for a second week. "Mayday" (#2) is still right behind and could retake the top spot at any time it slips up. For the time being, no one is safe at #1.
  • Bad Suns score a Top 10 this week with "Disappear Here" rising 12-10. This has been a fast mover and has only taken 7 weeks to get to the Top 10. This should peak right inside the Top 5 as some of their predecessors did. Even with #1 being pretty much open for anyone, this might not be able to have that shot.
  • USS continues their onslaught up the charts as "Work Shoes" rockets 31-23 for a new peak. This is looking like a Top 10 in two weeks, or possibly next week. This actually has a shot at #1 in the future, but this should slow down soon.
  • "Not Enough" has been quietly rebounding, as last week it bested its previous peak, which was set all the way back in June, and is now at #36 this week. This year has been a weird year for my favorite artists, as the only one to really to breakout is "Wherever I Go" (5-7), which only hit #1 for a week and spent eons at #2. Talay Riley, OneRepublic, SafetySuit ("Pause" (16-14)), Tove Lo, and probably more have been unable to get good debuts with their brand new singles. I'm not sure what the issue is here.
  • Speaking of mainstays not doing well, OneRepublic debuts their new single "Kids" at #46 this week, a far cry from their #1 debut of "Wherever I Go". I actually didn't care for this when it came out, but it slowly grew on me the more I listened to it. Right now, the window is a little smokey and I can't really give a good prediction on how well it could do, but my gut feeling thinks this might be their lowest charting single in awhile ("Feel Again" and "I Lived" couldn't debut last era, so I guess debuting is better lol).
  • A R I Z O N A make their chart debut this week with "Cross My Mind" at #54. They've been on On the Rise the past few weeks with "I Was Wrong" and "Where I Wanna Be", and I was actually deciding what one I wanted to use to chart before this came out. I didn't get fully invested into those two, which is good for this one, because this blows them out of the water. This is outstanding and I can see this being huge. This could be a potential big hit here.
  • "Silvertongue" is the only new song from Young The Giant's latest album that could debut this week, which debuted at #66. This will likely be a one-weeker, but this is likely the next single, so it shouldn't be long before we see it again.
