James' Top 70 - December 22, 2016

Woah, I'm on time for once?

6 debuts!

Notes:

  • "Love Like We Used To" holds the top spot for its tenth consecutive week. This is well above the competition right now. It will carry the torch into the new year and then some.
  • TOTEM enters the Top 10 this week with "Bubblegum" coming up 11-10. This has been pretty much a sleeper, as not much has been said about it, but this has definitely earned its spot. This should be a good hit in the new year, but this might be its only week in the Top 10 for the year. SafetySuit has two more songs ready to go Top 10 in "You" (14-11) and "Confused" (17-14), so this might be the odd one out for a bit.
  • We have another Top 40 debut this week, the third week in a row with one. This week newbies Ocean Park Standoff make their chart debut twice. "Good News" is the first of them, debuting at #35. This is a pretty solid debut for a song that didn't get a full week in. I expect this one, as well as "Diagram of a Simple Man" (23-15) and "Talk Too Much" (36-21), the last two Top 40 debuts, to be big hits in the first quarter of next year. All three are looking like Top 10 hits, with the latter two probably getting there in a week or two. Ocean Park Standoff also debut "Photos & Liquor" at #68, but that should be a short lived one for the time being.
  • The Hunna debuts yet another song this week in "Bonfire" coming in at #65, one-upping "You & Me"'s (66-63) #66 debut last week. This one will play out as the single on the chart, but they should have two songs chart concurrently for a little while. "Bonfire" has the bigger hit potential of the two and could be a good hit in the new year.
  • Galantis makes their chart debut this week with "Pillow Fight" at #67. They nearly broke the chart a few years ago with "Runaway (U & I)", but they just missed the chart with that one. This one features Matthew Koma on vocals, who has had some success on the chart. This looked poised to make a big splash this week based on early action in the beginning of the week, but it sorta went stagnant in the second half of the week. This has a shot at being a good hit for them.
  • Another song from the Year-End tournament makes its way to the chart this week (s/o to Azriel The Salty!), as "Bring You Home" makes it debut at #69. I expect this one to be a small hit for the Aussie duo. Dance music might be making a return to the charts after a pretty lackluster showing this year and last year.
  • Smallpools released a new single a few weeks ago, "Run with the Bulls", so naturally we have a song from their long over debut album making an appearance on the chart! "Street Fight" debuts this week at #70. I randomly got into this a few weeks ago, and was planning on just letting it be, but this has kinda been making its way back into my playlist. I'm not sure how this will do, if I will drop it or not, but this could see some action until their next single comes in. "Run with the Bulls" is only a 1:29 song, so I think I might just pass it over.
