Chart

Joseph's Hit 40

Despite only being available for 24 hours when I typed up last week's chart, Canadian singer Justin Bieber and American producer BloodPop® debuted at #5 with their collaboration Friends. It's no surprise that this week, the duo climb to #1, knocking P!nk down two places to #3 after a single week at the top. Friends is Justin's eighth #1, a tally bettered only by record holders One Direction and The Vamps with 11, with his first being Boyfriend over five years ago. Despite three chart hits in my top 15 earlier this year, none of Justin's 2017 releases managed to go higher than #10, so his most recent #1 before Friends was Let Me Love You a year ago, with Cold Water preceding it just two weeks before. It's BloodPop®'s first #1 in my chart, with his very first appearance.

They put in a strong bid for #1 and would've made it on most weeks, but up against Justin Bieber, Latin boyband CNCO and British girl group Little Mix have to settle for #2. Reggaetón Lento is CNCO's first chart appearance, and therefore their very first top 10 hit. Little Mix however achieve their thirteenth top 10 hit, and their third #2 alongside Hair and Shout Out to My Ex (blocked by comeback singles from Tom Odell and The Vamps). Reggaetón Lento continues the Spanish invasion in the chart, and it's the highest peaking Spanish track so far in my chart this year, ahead of #5 hit SÚBEME LA RADIO by Enrique Iglesias, and #13 hits Despacito by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee and Mi Gente by J Balvin & Willy William (the latter of which is new this week, marking a chart debut for both artists).

From one boyband to another! British four-piece The Shades made their debut earlier this year with #4 hit 24 Hours a Day, released a few weeks after I saw them live supporting The Tide. This week, they return with a second #4 debut, as follow-up hit Trouble follows exactly in its predecessor's footsteps.

Over the past year and a bit, Benjamin Ingrosso has cemented himself as a consistent hitmaker in my chart. His first hit Love You Again only made it as high as #24, but the following week, Fall In Love stormed to become his first #1, knocking off Shawn Mendes' Treat You Better. Since then, he's achieved two more top 10 hits, including Melodifestivalen track Good Lovin', and this week racks up his fourth top 10 hit overall with One More Time.

Fun fact: this week, we have two relatives in my top 10. Benjamin Ingrosso's cousin is Sebastian Ingrosso, who makes his chart debut this week alongside fellow Swedish House Mafia member Axwell. Neither Axwell nor Ingrosso have made my chart before, as part of their duo (Axwell Λ Ingrosso), as part of SHM, or solo, meaning that the #5 debut of More Than You Know is their very first appearance in my chart. It's also only the second time two relatives have been in my top 10 together, after siblings Grace and Conrad Sewell in 2015 (and together they locked up the entire top 4 in fact).

Aside from those already mentioned, we have chart debuts from James Hype, Kelli-Leigh and Aly & AJ, although Kelli-Leigh achieved an uncredited #22 hit in 2014 as the vocalist on Duke Dumont's I Got U. Betty Who receives her first hit as a lead artist, as Human Touch debuts at #31. She's previously only charted as a featured artist on Troye Sivan's #7 hit HEAVEN.

Next week, it's all eyes on the battle between Taylor Swift and Ryan Lawrie. Both debuted in the top 20 this week with their singles Look What You Made Me Do and Perfect Picture respectively, with the latter higher (due to an extra day), but who will take the top spot next week, if either? Keep an eye out for new American boyband In Real Life's debut single Eyes Closed too.
