Joseph's Hit 40

Soaring 16 places to claim this week's #1 is Taylor Swift, with her comeback single Look What You Made Me Do. The American singer claimed her first UK #1 with this just yesterday (Friday 1st September), but in my chart, it's her fifth #1 to date, five years after she first topped the chart with We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. It's her third lead single in a row to make #1, with Shake It Off completing the line-up, and they are joined by Blank Space and album track Enchanted as #1s. It's her 12th top 10 hit, and first since Bad Blood in 2015.

Many know him from The X Factor 2016, but Ryan Lawrie was known to me beforehand, with his single If Only making #6 in my chart a few months before his audition was televised. However, it saw a revival after his audition, and re-entered my chart at #1, finishing the year as my EOY #4. Perfect Picture is his first single since then, and first post-X Factor. It debuted at #12 after one day last week, and climbs to #2 in its first full week, not matching the peak of If Only but nevertheless showing a strong performance.

The highest new entry this week comes from brand new American boyband In Real Life. They were formed through Boy Band, a TV show airing in the US, where young men auditioned for a place in a five piece boyband with judges Timbaland, Emma Bunton and Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, plus Rita Ora as host. The five lucky guys were, left to right in the above photo, Drew Ramos, Sergio Calderon, Brady Tutton, Michael Conor and Chance Perez. Their debut single, an original song called Eyes Closed penned by Justin Tranter, debuts at #3 in my chart this week, making In Real Life one of four boybands in my top 20, joining CNCO, The Shades and PRETTYMUCH, all of whom have no more than two hits to their name thus far.

Sofia Carson debuts at #12 with her new single Ins and Outs, which she performed on the Boy Band final. It's her highest position so far, achieving #25 with Love is the Name and #37 with Back to Beautiful. Just two spots behind is Astrid S with her new single Think Before I Talk, her fourth chart hit and highest position since her debut hit 2AM made #9 in 2014.

In my album chart, Fifth Harmony maintain their 100% record of #1 albums, as their self-titled third release follows in the footsteps of Reflection and 7/27 in reaching the summit. They join a group of artists in having the joint second most #1 albums, with One Direction being the leaders with four.
