Céline Dion celebrates a seventh consecutive week crowning the list with My Heart Will Go On. The single is now her longest-running Number 1-single, surpassing Think Twice which spent five weeks above the list. The single is also the longest-running Number 1-single by a female solo act. The longest-running Number 1-single by a female artist in general is held by the Spice Girls with Wannabe, which spent ten weeks leading the charts. My Heart Will Go On also earns a Platinum Certification this week, as the heartful ballad has amassed over 65,000 points.
Will Smith slides into the Top 10 with Gettin' Jiggy Wit It. The single is the third release of Will Smith his debut album “Big Willie Style”. The single is based on samples of He's the Greatest Dancer by Sister Sledge and Sang and Dance by the Bar-Kays. This week, the single finally peaks at Number 7 after a five week-climb, earning Will Smith his second Top 10-hit on this list. He hit the Top 10 before with his massive Number 1-single Men In Black last year, which became the third-best-scoring single of 1997. His previous single Just Cruisin’ narrowly missed the Top 10.
Edsilia Rombley scores the highest debut of the week. Edsilia Rombley is a Dutch singer who started her career as a member of the group Dignity. She later went solo and appeared on the European Soundmix Show, which helped establish her international reputation. Edsilia Rombley now participates in the Eurovision Song Contest of 1998 as the Dutch entry. It has been a while since the Netherlands have performed well in Eurovision since their win in 1975 with Teach-In, but Edsilia Rombley promises a win with the single Hemel & Aarde. On this list, not many artists competing in the Eurovision Song Contest have entered the list. Gina G managed to score a Number 1-hit with Ooh Aah...Just a Little Bit, which competed in 1996, and Katrina and the Waves entered the charts with Love Shine a Light, which won the competition in 1997. Will Edsilia Rombley become a success on this list as well? So far, Hemel & Aarde has a promising start as the single debuts at Number 14.
