Spicemania remains unstoppable at Number 1 for a fifth week

The Spice Girls celebrate a fifth week at Number 1 with their charity-single Who Do You Think You Are. The single serves as the official Comic Relief single of 1997. In celebration of the charity, the Spice Girls also released a parody version of Who Do You Think You Are’s music video starring various British comedians including Dawn French.

The Blue Boy scores his first Top 10-entry with Remember Me. Blue Boy is a pseudonym for the British DJ Alexis 'Lex' Blackmore. His single is becoming an international success, especially on the dance charts. The track is built around samples from Woman of the Ghetto by Marlena Shaw. In the United Kingdom, the track reached Number 8. On this list, Blue Boy also reaches Number 8.

Jan Smit scores the highest debut of the week. The young Dutch singer is only eleven years old, but he still manages to score a hit. His single Ik zing dit lied voor jou alleen is a cover of the original by German singer Andrea Jürgens from 1978. Jan Smit covered the single for his recently deceased grandmother. In the Netherlands and in Belgium, the single peaked at Number 1. On this list, Jan Smit debuts at Number 19.

Katja Schuurman enters the list as a soloist. While Katja Schuurman might not ring a bell, the Dutch singer fulfills the role of ‘Jessica’ in the popular girl group Linda, Roos & Jessica. With the girls, she scored a massive 2 x Platinum-hit with Ademnood and two other Top 10-entries. Katja Schuurman had endeavored into a solo career before with Maar Nu Heb Ik Er Een, but that single was no success. Her newest Wereldmeid enters at Number 27 this week.

Madonna receives a Gold Certification for Don't Cry for Me Argentina. The song, taken from the ‘Evita’-soundtrack, was hugely successful for the American singer whom had not scored a hit on this list before. The single peaked at Number 4 earlier this year. Internationally, the single peaked in the Top 10 of numerous countries.
