Swing it! The Spice Girls remain at Number 1 for a third week

The Spice Girls celebrate a third week at Number 1 with the disco-hit Who Do You Think You Are. The girls are turning into a global phenomenon, which was best exemplified during the 1997 Brit Awards in London. The Girls received two awards, the most of any nominated act, and Geri Halliwell made worldwide headlines with her ‘Union Jack dress’. The short dress was very revealing, making Ginger Spice the main subject of the day. Geri also made headlines with a small wardrobe malfunction, accidentally revealing her chest. Everyone wants a bit of the Girl Power!-sensation.

LL. Cool J scores his first Top 10-entry with Ain't Nobody. The American rapper has scored a hit earlier last year with Doin' It featuring Leshaun, which peaked just outside the Top 10 at Number 12. The song is taken from the ‘Beavis and Butt-Head Do America’-soundtrack. LL. Cool J reaches Number 8 this week, marking his highest-peaking single to date.

Nasty scores her first Top 10-entry with Een Moment Zonder Jou. The Dutch female rapper is one of the few female rappers to have success in the Netherlands. After becoming the best Dutch Female Rapper in the ‘Nederlandse Kampioenschappen Rappen’, Nasty joined the international Eurodance-act 2 Static. The group enjoyed small success. In 1996, Nasty began writing on Dutch rap music and signed to Virgin Records. Her first single, Een Moment Zonder Jou, was a big hit in the Netherlands. The song is also becoming a success on this list, peaking at Number 10 this week. This makes Nasty the first female rapper of all time to reach the Top 10 as a soloist.

Madonna scores the highest debut of the week. Madonna is considered a worldwide legend, having scored massive hits since the 80s such as Like a Virgin, Get Into the Groove and Like a Prayer. The American singer has entered this list before when charting began in 1995, but most entries did not do much for her. Her latest single Don’t Cry For Me Argentina was her first big success. The song was taken from the soundtrack of her film ‘Evita’. The heartfelt song peaked at Number 4 and is currently eligible for a Gold Certification with nearly 40,000 points. Her newest song is also taken from the ‘Evita’-soundtrack, being Another Suitcase In Another Hall. Madonna enters at Number 25 this week.
