The Backstreet Boys celebrate a fourth week at Number 1; Britney Spears scores a Top 10-debut with her second single

The Backstreet Boys earn a fourth week at Number 1 with their massive hit I Want It That Way. The single has already received a Gold Certification. The single is a big international hit, most notably topping the Billboard Hot 100 and the Official UK Charts.  It has been established as their fastest-selling release, aiding the anticipation of their new upcoming album “Millennium”. The Backstreet Boys needed almost five years to score a Number 1-hit, since they began charting on this list with We’ve Got It Goin’ On.

The Goo Goo Dolls step into the Top 10 with Iris. The American alternative group already had big international success, launching their career in 1995. Their album “A Boy Named Goo” has been a big success and is one of the 90s’ best-selling alternative albums. The Goo Goo Dolls now achieve newfound success with Iris, taken from the “City Of Angels”-soundtrack. The single is now the Goo Goo Dolls’ first ever Top 10-single on this list. The new song peaks at Number 9 this week.

Britney Spears scores the highest debut of the week, entering within the Top 10. Britney Spears has been the biggest breakthrough of this year, skyrocketing to the top of the charts with … Baby One More Time. The debut single spent eight weeks above the list, received a 3 x Platinum Certification and amassed over 110,000 points. Britney Spears now returns with her second hit single, which is met with high anticipation. Sometimes enters at Number 8. The song is Britney Spears her second single to reach the Top 10.

TLC receive a Platinum Certification for No Scrubs. The American girl group was a huge success in 1994 and 1995, but then fell apart due to internal fights and a harsh lawsuit. TLC returned in full glory with No Scrubs, which became a massive Number 1-hit on this list. The single spent two consecutive week crowning the list and fought off competition from Toy-Box and Britney Spears. As of this week, TLC has amassed over 65,000 points. This marks TLC their third Platinum Certification, following Creep and Waterfalls.
