The English singer started his highly successful career as a member of the boy group Take That, with whom he scored big hits such as Back For Good. Robbie Williams left the band in 1995 to pursue a solo career, debuting his first proper solo single Freedom in 1996. On this list, the single immediately entered at Number 1 and became one of 1996 its biggest hits. More singles followed, including the Top 10-entry Old Before I Die. His newest work Angels is taken from his album “The Ego Has Landed”, which has been highly anticipated and smashed sales records worldwide. On this list, Angels peaks at Number 9 this week.
Run-DMC and Jason Nevins score the highest debut of the week. The American hip hop group from Hollis, Queens, New York, was founded in 1981 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell. Run-DMC is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential acts in the history of hip hop culture and one of the most famous hip hop acts of the 1980s. One of their most recognizable songs has been remixed by producer Jason Nevins, being It’s Like That. Nevins’s remix certainly matches Run-DMC’s expected success and is currently climbing the charts in Europe. On this list, Run-DMC and Jason Nevins debut at Number 15 with It’s Like That (Remix).
Although All Saints is unable to surpass the Spice Girls this week, the heavenly ladies still have a reason to celebrate. Their single Never Ever has received a Gold Certification. As of this week, the song has amassed over 40,000 points. The hit has become the girls’ breakthrough and is a massive success in numerous countries, even cracking the American charts. On this list, the hit has peaked at Number 2 but can easily climb to Number 1 in the next few weeks.
Anouk receives a Platinum Certification for her breakthrough hit Nobody’s Wife. The Dutch rock-singer made a household name for herself with this single, taking over the Netherlands by storm. The single peaked at Number 2 on this list, where she spent three weeks behind the Spice Girls’ Spice Up Your Life. Nonetheless, Nobody’s Wife has amassed over 65,000 points. The additional album “Together Alone” has been a commercial success as well.
Aqua celebrate a Platinum Certification for their debut single Barbie Girl. Who would have expected that a simple song about the world’s most famous girl doll would be such a success? Barbie Girl became an international sensation, peaking at Number 1 in multiple countries all over Europe, whilst also reaching the Top 10 in the United States. The song has been marked as one of the most iconic singles of all time, racking up millions of sales. On this list, Aqua has been an enormous success as well; Barbie Girl spent two weeks at Number 2 and became one of the best-scoring singles of 1997. Their initial success has spawned other singles, the most notable one being the Top 10-hit Doctor Jones. As of this week, Aqua their first hit has amassed over 65,000 points.
