The Spice Girls open the final year of the decennium at Number 1

The Spice Girls open the new year at Number 1 with Goodbye. The single is aided by massive international success, topping the charts in multiple countries. The song is the first release that does not feature Geri Halliwell. Some of the Spice Girls have already pursued solo careers whilst promoting Goodbye, namely Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm. Nonetheless, the Girls’ hit enters a third week above the list and successfully fights off all competition. Most opposition comes from the Vengaboys and Brandy.

Robbie Williams enters the Top 10 with No Regrets. The song is the second single of Robbie Williams his second studio album “I’ve Been Expecting You”. The album previously spawned a chart-topper with Millennium, which spent one week above the list. Robbie Williams’s new hit marks his sixth Top 10-entry, following other successes such as Freedom and Angels. The new single peaks at Number 8 this week.

Acda en de Munnik step into the Top 10 with Het Regent Zonnestralen. Acda en de Munnik was one of the biggest breakthrough stars of last year, skyrocketing into the charts. The group their debut single Niet of Nooit Geweest peaked at Number 2 and received a certified Platinum, amassing over 65,000 points. The group then had another minor success with Laat Me Slapen. Acda en de Munnik now peak at Number 10 with the new Het Regent Zonnestralen.

Boyzone score the highest debut of the week. The group has experienced massive success last year, scoring their first Number 1-hit with No Matter What. The single spent five weeks above the charts. Coincidentally, the chart-topper receives a big 2 x Platinum Certification this week. The single has amassed over 90,000 points. Boyzone now try to match the success of the past release with I Love the Way You Love Me. They certainly are off to a successful start, debuting at Number 15 this week.

Cher her comeback single Believe receives a Gold Certification this week. The song became the American pop icon’s first success in a long time, following a decade-defying career. The disco hit topped the charts in multiple countries worldwide and was one of 1998’s best-sellers. Cher noted her additional album would be a completely new sound. On this list, Believe peaked at Number 2 and became Cher her biggest-scoring release on this list. As of this week, Cher her song has amassed over 40,000 points.
