Ultimate Kaos climb to their first ever Number 1-hit with Casanova. Ultimate Kaos is a British boyband formed by music mogul Simon Cowell, which found success earlier with hits such as Some Girls following their support to Take That on their 1994 UK tour. The group now make an international breakthrough with Casanova, which is a cover of the original by LeVert in 1987. This week, Ultimate Kaos is the first boyband since No Mercy in February 1997 to reach Number 1 on this list. Ultimate Kaos fights off competition from Madonna and Robbie Williams, whom all near closely.
Brandy and Monica enter the Top 10 with The Boy Is Mine. The mid-tempo R&B track revolves around the two singers fighting over a man. Brandy has entered the Top 10 before with Sittin' Up in My Room, which peaked at Number 10 and amassed over 35,000 points. Monica has made the Top 40 a few times on her own as well, with her latest entry being For You I Will. The singers now collaborate, eying the Number 1-position closely. This week, The Boy Is Mine peaks at Number 5. The song is the highest-peaking single to date for both songstresses.
Because of the Spice Girls’ re-entry craze, many singles re-enter the Top 10 after dropping a few places last week. Amongst the returning singles are Under the Bridge by All Saints, whom reach a new peak at Number 4, Save Tonight by Eagle-Eye Cherry, Truly, Madly, Deeply by pop duo Savage Garden, and I’ll Say Goodbye by Total Touch. The Spice Girls’ Stop remains in the Top 10 at Number 6.
Acda en de Munnik score the highest re-entry of the week. The single dropped off the charts due to the Spice Girls overtaking the list after Geri Halliwell’s departure. The single initially hit a peak at Number 19 two weeks ago, but the single now reaches Number 14. As the adult contemporary-music in the Netherlands becomes more and more successful due to the likes of BLØF, other Dutch acts with the similar music style become popular. Acda en De Munnik is the latest additional to the adult contemporary-genre, as they score a big hit with Niet of Nooit Geweest. The lovely song is rapidly climbing the Dutch charts, becoming a nationwide hit. On this list, Niet of Nooit Geweest is already scaling the charts as well, possibly becoming a Top 10-hit next week.
Aqua scores the highest new debut of the week. Aqua already scored two big hits on this list with Barbie Girl and Doctor Jones. The first single became the group’s breakthrough single and became one of the biggest hits of the 90s. On this list, Barbie Girl peaked at Number 2 behind Spice Up Your Life by the Spice Girls. The single received a Platinum Certification and amassed over 65,000 points. The group’s second single was a hit as well, climbing to Number 3. Aqua their latest singles did not reach the Top 10, but their newest entry is off to a promising start. Turn Back Time debuts at Number 33.
