Welcome along back to Effervescence!
Noteworthy cultural notes for this week:
- It's 40 days from the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, the jostling for position is well and truly underway. Croatia, Italy, and Ukraine are currently leading in the odds, where do you stand?
- Is there a relative lack of quality in new releases for the past few weeks? I'm sure it's a 'me' thing only. Regardless, it does allow my crazy throwbacks schedule some room to breathe and even some recent releases that didn't debut right away to get a little spotlight finally! Case in point - 'Sinceramente' has been camping out in my head this week and debuts this week, an impressive 6 weeks after release!?! Better late than never I guess?
- April 1st is April Fool's Day. We celebrate with a few choice one-hit wonders and gimmick novelty tracks in Effervescence this week!

Ahoy, Alex!
Firstly, apologies for the delay in a response. Very busy recently.
Glad you like the 'April Fools' entries in this week's Effervescence! Of the tracks you pulled up, 'Brimful of Asha' and 'The One and Only' have always been big favorites of mine so I was especially pleased to have them here this week too!
Yeeeeeesss! 'Sinceramente' randomly smashed into chart stratosphere this week. I'm not sure what happened but I continually had the urge to play this more this week so it went from a peripheral playlist track to a constant piece I was reaching out for specifically. Funny how life does that to you sometimes. Long may it burn up the chart spots.
Nate Smith is still gaining momentum! I'm not sure at this point I could see it topping the chart but it is sure to ride the momentum to a potential Top 20 spot in the next week or two.
I wouldn't necessarily peg myself as the biggest Olivia Rodrigo stan, however, as an indie/rock/alternative fan her album 'GUTS' last year really was a breath of fresh air for a current star of her stature and while her lyrics don't necessarily hit home to me both from an age and sex perspective they most certainly have a sense of humor and nostalgia of an era we all go through. 'obsessed' is cut from the same cloth as the best tracks from the album and I was so pleased to see it finally made streamable this week. It's worth mentioning 'so american' is also in the same boat and I could see both tracks climbing in the next chart on Thursday, the former even taking a run at knocking Kaleen from top spot!
Appreciate your interest and comment as always.
Happy April Fools Day to you!
Hi Maxon!
Nice to see the big gains for "Loyal To Myself" and "Europapa", the new peaks for "Waking Up" and "Simple Life", the return for "La Noia" and the debuts for "Obsessed", "Sinceramente" (Took a while to see it here, but happy to see this!), "Hard Rock Hallelujah", "Macarena", "The One and Only", "Lighter" and "Cotton Eye Joe".
Really like seeing a mix of new and old songs on your chart, it is very unique!
Great chart!
Take care.

Ahoy, Sergej!
Apologies for the late response. Busy life leaves less time for chart play ☹️
Appreciate you stopping by. Big European hits emerging. 'Loyal To Me' is really starting to feel at home in the playlists and could reach the Top 10 soon. I have noticed 'Europapa' has been gaining a lot of momentum recently and really rising in the Eurovision odds. We'll see how ong that train runs and if it can bust the doors off of the contest itself this May. April now, by the way, ESC songs maybe creeping into your own rundown soon?
I love that you're enjoying the sporadic nature of my including the 'throwback' tracks in on a random weekly basis. As someone who has always had an eclectic taste and never gets fed up with the tracks I like/liked, I will always take any random pop culture event, holiday, or unfortunate demise to dig into the vault and listen to yesteryear's favorites. It is not likely to stop any time soon though This upcoming week has very little opportunity to dust off any classics. We shall see.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting. Happy April Fools Day to you!
Ahoy, Piran,
I didn't really think I had a Eurovision takeover yet, I guess 9 tracks really does get me in that ballpark though, hey? So please help us for the coming weeks as more of them really challenge the 40 and the true takeover upcoming for the May 9th edition of the chart. I'll have all 37 in that one!
Bit of an embarrassing late bloomer for 'Sinceramente' but better late than never. I have been appreciating the tune for weeks so about the time it made its bow here. 'obsessed', along with 'so american' really picked up right where 'bad idea, right', 'all american bitch', and 'get him back' left off last year. Loving the angst and self-depreciating humor of Olivia Rodrigo recently.
Appreciate your presence as always, your highness.
Ahoy, Maxon! 👋
You don't stop to amaze with a songs from the past. This is: #10 "Brimful of Asha"; #15 "Macarena"; #21 "The One and Only"; #36 "Cotton Eye Joe".
Also, support to existing tracks: #1 "We Will Rave"; #2 "When I'm Gone"; #6 "Sinceramente" (Oh, it happened); #7 "Never Be Alone"; #8 "Lonely Dancers"; #12 "Waking Up"; #16 "Rim Tim Tagi Dim"; #17 "Never Be Lonely"; #18 "Love Hurt Repeat"; #19 "Beat of Your Heart"; #22 "Unforgettable"; #26 "Birds in the Sky"; #27 "Make You Mine"; #32 "Before the Party is Over"; #33 "Dizzy"; #34 "Lighter"; #39 "Lovers in a Past Life".
In your reply to my comment from your previous chart, you said: "You actually mentioned more than half of the tracks in my chart this week so I am very happy you're getting a measure of interest from it". This is a very simple reason. I guess that you found these tracks in the Official UK Singles Chart, but these songs are also presented in combined European chart which I follow.
So, my favorite is still… Nate Smith! 😁
Glad to see that #23 "Bulletproof" rapidly rises to the top. But I am understand why you like the European sounds more than American 'national' hits.
… Oh, Olivia debuted in the TOP 3! 😳
Yeah, she's American, but she is more popular in the world than Nate Smith. 😄
Thanks for you new chart and have a good mood! 🤝
