Changes on how the chart is made! Tool #1 for a 3rd week!

September 15, 2019 | 100 songs

This week there's a very big change. Last week, I re-introduced the Top 100, and from now on, the charts are more than just a bunch of tracks in an order I think is accurate. Now the charts are actually based on some facts: There are 2 things counting:

#1- How the charts used to be: Like I said, 'a bunch of tracks in an order I think is accurate.' Now in that order, the songs are gonna get points, 100 points for the #1, 99 for the #2, 1 for the #100 and so on.

#2- The most played songs on Spotify by myself. I use a site that tracks everything I listen to on Spotify and gives me all sorts of fun statistics including the most played songs. I use the most played songs in the last 30 days. The points given to the songs are the amount of plays x 10. For example, 'In The End' by Linkin Park was with 14 plays my most played track in the last 30 days. That means it will get 140 points added up to the score of the normal chart order earlier mentioned. If you want to know what the site is, send me a personal message because I'm not 100% sure if it's allowed to share links or not.

Onto the actual chart, Tool remains #1 with 'Fear Inoculum' for a 3rd week. Slipknot also doesn't move and stays #2 for a 3rd week with' Unsainted'. It's only ONE point behind Tool so maybe they could takeover the #1 next week since it would only take 1 more play than Tool to overtake them. Finishing the Top 3, Post Malone and Young Thug re-gain 1 spot with 'Goodbyes', also just 2 points behind Slipknot.

Dotan goes back up again with 'Numb' at #4, and due to the massive amount of streams, Linkin Park blasts their way up the charts at #5 with 'In The End'.

Ice Nine Kills finnaly get another top 10 with 'The Jig Is Up' at #6, Also Asking Alexandria enters the top 10. However, with that track they have already been in the top 10 before and even reached #1. Wage War gains a single spot with 'Who I Am' at #8 and 'Time' by NF crashes down to #9. A massive re-gain for The Score at #10 with 'Stay'.

Interesting change! It's interesting to see all the songs that re-enter because of it. A lot of Linkin Park!

Yeah, they got a lot of points from the streaming! So far the most played artist since Aug 13

Interesting change, and I'm sure a lot of extra work ;-) I'm curious what site it is...

Yup, I actually didn't succeed in making the chart in just 1 day. I'll get used to that xD. Can't tell if the last sentence is sarcasm or not, but if it isn't, you can always message me if you want to know.

I've been thinking about including actual statistics in my own charts but decided against it because the number of times I stream a song in a week is not enough. You have used 30 day streaming statistics which I somewhat question the use of in a weekly chart. Either way, its a fun change. The history of In The End on your chart is crazy - already at 1.3 million points and thats without 2005-2015 being around yet. On this weeks chart, I am happy to see the rise of Teeth. Great chart as always!

The reason I used the 30 day statistics is basically what you already mentioned for yourself: I don't stream enough per week. Using the 30 days, it will mean the streaming of songs will only give them the full effect on the chart after that time has passed, which will result in the fact that very high debuts will be less frequent. Instead, the songs will climb more before reaching their peak, which, in my opinion is more interesting than a problem. I'll have to see how it goes, I can always change it up a bit if I want to. And yes, a bleeding 1.3M points and counting for In The End. More than deserved. Favorite song all-time by favorite band all-time. I have no idea when it's run is going to end, definity not soon, cause it's one of the songs I stream the most and that will keep it in the charts. A 2M points milestone definity ain't impossible but that will take a VERY long time for sure.
