Congratulations to The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl who have the coveted Christmas no.1 of 2020 with “Fairytale Of New York”. The song initially released in 1987 now tops my chart for the first time - 33 years after its release! It was close race with two other songs. Mariah Carey got the runner up spot with “AIWFCIY” for the second year running. Last week’s no.1 “Willow” by Taylor Swift dropped to number 3 but could be in contention to return to number 1 next week as the Xmas songs tend to drop heavily down the chart. Taylor Swift does however hold on to the top spot of the album chart for a second week with “Evermore”. A surprise release from Eminem titled “Music to be murdered by – Side B” had to settle for no.2 behind Taylor.

In total, 20 Xmas songs make up the top 40. Meanwhile Taylor Swift has 10 songs in the top 40, including 9 from the album “Evermore”. Other notable songs doing well this week include the cover of “Winter Song” by Sam Fender climbing back up to no.4. Gabrielle Aplin has 3 Xmas covers in the top 20 including the brilliant cover of former xmas no.1 “The Power Of Love” which ended up at no.5. Ed Sheeran returns with a surprise new single “Afterglow” just entering at no.40 having been released just a couple of days ago. ”.

Bubbling under the chart:

Mike Posner & Jessie J – Weaponry

Eminem – Gnat

Eminem – Zeus

Eminem – Black Magic

Hey Zack! :)
It's cool to see such a huge festive takeover this week, especially with just a few hours to go until the big day now! I'm particularly pleased that it's led by 'Fairytale To New York'. Is this is the first time that this song has been #1 for you, or was it able to reach the top spot in previous years?
I'm also very happy that 'Lover' managed to re-enter too!
Good chart as usual.

Hey Piran, yep...its the first time The Pogues have got to the top spot with "FONY". I think given what Mariah Carey achieved on the official chart, and with it being 2020, and it has always been my fave xmas song; it managed to reach the summit for once! Taylor Swift's "Lover" is a xmas song for me despite being released in the summer last year. I mean the opening lyrics are; "We could leave the Christmas lights up 'til January"...and the video has a xmas cosy feel to it! It coulf hang around on next weeks chart considering the next chart will be Jan 1st

Hey Zack!
Nice to see "Fairytale Of New York" at the top, also nice seeing many christmas songs in your chart, as well as the return for "Lover" and the debut for "Afterglow"!
Great chart!

Hi! I loved the idea of the chart in the version without the Taylor / Christmas songs, since there are a lot of these this week! Of these, I love "Save your tears", "Prisoner", "Midnight Sky".
