Mariah Carey claims the Holiday 2016 crown

Over the past several weeks, songs added on Crownnote could be tagged as a holiday song. These seasonal songs appeared in weekly charts more and more toward the end of 2016, when Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa all began within a few days of each other; several users also created special No Points charts featuring their favorite holiday selections.

During the holiday 2016 season, which, for chart purposes, spanned from Black Friday on November 25 through New Year's Eve, Crownnote users gave points to 100 songs. The clear winner, as shown on the Holiday 2016 Chart page (which will still be available and live-update for old charts added in the future), was Mariah Carey's 1994 now-classic, "All I Want For Christmas Is You." The track, which reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 this season after reaching its peak of #11 the year before, tops Crownnote's Holiday 2016 chart with nearly 150,000 points and even reached #15 on the Crown 100. With roughly a third of Carey's points at #2 is "Fairytale Of New York" by The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl, originally released in 1987. Wham!'s "Last Christmas" came in at #3, with added sentiment this year due to the unfortunate passing of George Michael on Christmas Day. Two more modern songs round out the top five: Ariana Grande's original single "Santa Tell Me," followed by Pentatonix's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."

Well, my top holiday song was "Christmas Promise", and that made #7 (and all those points were mine). I guess I'm both happy and sad about that. Glad to see "Hallelujah" in the Top 5, that song is still in my Top 5 on my weekly charts. Never listened to much of Mariah Carey's though.
