Braintree Top 40

In another competitive week, we see a 4-horse race for the top spot.  Unfortunately, last week’s #1, “Bloom,” couldn’t handle the pressure and crumbled to #4 without the support of Emm!e and her butthole.  After being publicly shamed for calling herself a Barb yet not listening to Nicki Minaj’s new singles, Daina pushed “Chun-Li” all the way up to #3 after it previously peaked at #13 back in April but couldn’t beat the two summer juggernauts of “I’ll Be There” and “One Kiss,” both previous #1s.  Although Jess Glynne looked set to move back into the top spot after a week away, it was Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa that eventually hit the top as Breagh and Emily combined forces at the end of the week. This marks its 4th week at #1, tying it for the 2nd-longest stay at #1 with “I Miss You” and behind “The Middle.”

The rest of the top ten comes from a variety of different influences as Daina pushes “Barbie Tingz way up 40-5 while Emm!e keeps brings both “Delicate” and “What I Need” back at #7 and #8, respectively.  Emily’s song of the summer, “La Cintura,” falls one to #6 while her and Emm!e bring King Princess to the top ten for the first time with “1950” at #9.

The highest debut of the week goes to Backstreet Boys with their new single, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” at #19.  A big surprise is why the hell “Bang Bang” has climbed all the way up to #13! Not only that, but every single person has listened to it at least once in the past two weeks.  The song came out back in 2014, yet it’s getting a major resurgence now for seemingly no reason at all.

Aside from “Delicate” and “What I Need,” Emm!e also kept “Go Bang” on the chart (which she finally heard in the outside world!).   She also got “Get Some” to re-enter the chart at #36, teaming up with Celina and Emily to do so. Speaking of Celina and Emily, they both played the #PyleOnTheLove playlist this week, which helped with the big “Bang Bang” resurgence.

Daina left her Ninki Minjaj playlist on repeat this week, as evidenced by the “Chun-Li”/”Barbie Tingz” resurgence as well as trivia-favorite “Truffle Butter” debuting at #32 after coming out three years ago and “Whip It” debuting at #38 six years later.  Breagh listened to copious amounts of Led Zeppelin, The Beach Boys, and Florence + the Machine, but her only influence was her obsession with Dua Lipa, as usual. Catie had a big week as she and Mike spun the devil’s music on repeat following the release of Kanye’s new album, Ye.  Out of the seven new tracks on the album, Catie got 5 to chart all in a row from #20 to #24 and the other two at #39 and 40.

Next week brings us new music from Lily Allen, Lykke Li, and Tove Lo while Christina Aguilera releases yet another new single in an attempt to stay relevant.  After a competitive and fairly equal week this week, next week should prove to be unpredictable depending on who shows up. Can Daina get “Chun-Li” to the top or will Breagh Lipa block her yet again with “One Kiss”?  Can Catie shove Kanye even higher or will Emm!e drown him out with Taylor Swift. Find out next week!
