Chart

James' Top 40 - July 29, 2015

New #1!

Notes:

  • Dirty Heads make one of the quickest climbs to #1 in chart history, as they send "End of the World" 9-1 for its first week atop the chart, needing only 3 weeks to do it. I have honestly fallen so in love with this, and this could be a top contender for Song of the Year. This has the potential to go a long way, as it could be on top longer than "My Type"'s 6 weeks. I'm not sure if it has the steam to top "A Taste of Silver"'s 10, but it could approach it.
  • "Little Monster" continues to climb, as it goes 10-8 for a new peak. Everything seems to be falling into place for it, and it could be looking at a big jump next since some of the songs above it are a bit vulnerable.
  • Tove Lo climbs 18-13 this week with "Timebomb" for a new peak. This has been gaining nicely, but it could get destroyed soon. This one was supposed to be the next radio single, but it peculiarly has been removed from Republic Playbook and All Access, so it might have been canceled (in favor of "Not On Drugs" potentially). To be honest, even if it doesn't get released as a single, this should do just fine and peak in the upper tier of the chart nonetheless. Tove Lo could be looking at 3 songs charting soon, if we get a new announcement within the next few weeks since it doesn't look like "Talking Body" (#26) is looking to give up anytime soon.
  • "Cut the Cord" takes the biggest climb of the week (10 positions), going 25-15 for a new peak. If there is any song to challenge "End of the World" for #1 anytime soon, this is the one. This is red hot and will look to climb into the Top 10 next week, as it is in full gear.
  • "I Want You" climbs into the Top 20 this week, going 23-20 for a new peak for Wrabel's first Top 20. This one has been able to rebound, as it was taking some hits for a few weeks due to being at the wrong place, but it was able to hold up and push through. This has more steam to go further, but how much further is to be seen.
  • 184 weeks: The amount of time it took to get "Never Stop" out of the Top 20. This has had a record breaking run in the Top 20, as it never fell out of it in its whole chart run, until today. It resides at #21, as Wrabel was able to get it out of there. Now let's see how long it takes to get it out of the Top 30.
  • "My Way" and "Ship to Wreck" make their way into the Top 30, going 33-28 and 35-30 respectively. Both aren't looking at a huge future to them, but they both have a shot at breaking out.
  • A Great Big World debuts this week with "Hold Each Other" at #33. This one almost charted last week, but barely missed the chart after just two days of work. With a full week under its belt, it was able to reel in an easy debut. It debuts with a nice 21 plays. This has the shot of a good run, but it realistically is looking like a song to peak in the lower teens. This is A Great Big World's second charter, as they charted with "Say Something" (solo, not Christina), which peaked at #6. That one had one of the worst falls off the chart, as it went 6-14-out. That one burnedmajorly on me, but this definitely won't.
  • Tame Impala makes their chart debut with "The Less I Know the Better" coming in at #36. This one's future could be iffy, but I might use this instead of the 7 minute "Let It Happen" (which appeared on On the Rise last week), so it could have a nice chart run. This could have a nice run.
  • "Another You" debuts at #39 this week after spending two weeks at the top of the On the Rise chart. This is Armin Van Buuren's second chart entry following "This Is What It Feels Like", which hit #6 in 2013. This is Mr. Probz first chart entry, though "Nothing Really Matters" was able to spend a few weeks on On the Rise.
  • "Worry Bout It" is the final debut sitting at the #40 spot. This one barely debuted, but was able to edge in. This has the shot of being one weeker, but could blossom into something bigger. This is both acts' second chart entry, Kirko Bangz charted with "Drank In My Cup", which hit #16, and Fetty Wap has "My Way" currently charting. Fetty Wap might be looking at a big year, and a potential Best New Artist nomination for my awards. He also sees On the Rise action this week with "679", which could end up debuting sooner or later.
  • And we got a new record that no one wants to hold - "Honey, I'm Good." takes the biggest fall in chart history (recurrents don't count), as it falls off the chart from #27. This one went down hard, as it went 17-27-off to end its chart run. It dawned on me how burnt I am on this song when it came on my shuffle and I jumped to hit next on my iPod.
