Chart

James' Top 40 - July 8, 2015

Notes:

  • "My Type" spends its 6th week atop the chart, again without a firm grasp on the top. It's been in danger of losing the top spot for the past few weeks, but has been beating "A Taste of Silver" (#2) each time. Next week should be another battle, along with another.
  • Until the Ribbon Breaks owns 2 of the Top 3, as "Pressure" moves 4-3 for a new peak. This one is looking at a potential #1 reign next week, as the song is starting to catch fire a bit.
  • "Good Thing" enters the Top 10, as it climbs 12-9 for a new peak. This one was looking like a #1 smash in the making early on, but it has really toned down since. It still has a pretty big future ahead of it, but #1 might not be the highest it can get.
  • WALK THE MOON and SafetySuit are both able to hold onto their milestones this week, as neither leave the Top 10 or Top 20 respectively for the first time. "Shut Up and Dance" holds at #10, and "Never Stop" rebound 20-19 after a positive week. Both will have another week in danger next week.
  • Two songs enter the Top 20, as "Take Your Time" moves 21-17 and "Get 'Em Up" moves 22-20. "Take Your Time" has been steadily moving up, and it should continue to do so. Top 10 doesn't look in its sights, but it should be able to approach it at the very least. "Get 'Em Up" is working to best its #9 peak, and it could do that, but it'll be harder now as "Make Me Believe Again" is starting to steal some spotlight from this and "Satellite" (16-15).
  • Tove Lo has herself a positive week this week, as "Talking Body" makes another rebound, moving 25-23. The song just refuses to die, as it is starting to pick up its speed again. This is usually on every time I turn on the radio and I never turn it, as this is what is helping keeping it alive. "Timebomb" makes a big jump, going 34-27 for a new peak. This is red hot and should continue to climb rapidly for the foreseeable future. This should easily best "Talking Body"'s #7 peak, and could challenge for #1 with more positive updates like this one.
  • Robin Thicke scores the top debut this week with "Morning Sun" coming in red hot at #24. This debuts with 25 plays under its belt, a great start for the song. I've been listening to this a lot, and this could be surprise contender for a big spot on the chart in a couple weeks. This one is one to look out for. This is Robin's second chart entry as a main artist, as "Blurred Lines" hit #8 a few years back.
  • "We Move Like the Ocean" moves into the Top 30 this week, going 31-30 for a new peak. This one has been moving slowly, but it looks like it might breakout very soon. I was thinking this would be the week it would break out, which it started off higher before some songs jumped above it. With "Dancing on Quicksand" (8-13) starting to falter, this should be able to move into full swing soon.
  • The Weeknd makes a big jump with "Can't Feel My Face" this week, as it climbs 38-33 for a new peak. This one might take awhile to peak, but this should be able to see the Top 10 potentially.
  • Four more debuts occur, as Shinedown, X Ambassadors, Fetty Wap, and Selena Gomez debut.
  • Shinedown debuts at #34 with "Cut the Cord". This one had a hot start at the beginning of the week, but started to cool off later on. Shinedown has a big track record on the chart, and this should help bolster that. This should be a Top 10 hit with ease.
  • "Gorgeous" debuts at #35 this week, as it was pretty hot throughout the week. This had a lower debut than I was expecting, but it should be able to jump next week. This should turn into a big album track (probably will be a single later on). X Ambassadors also has two songs on On the Rise this week, with "Nervous" and "Renegades". Both could debut soon.
  • Fetty Wap debuts with "My Way" at #38 (1738 lol). This has started to gain some ground recently, and looks like this could be a big hit. "Trap Queen" saw On the Rise a few weeks ago, but that won't debut.
  • And the final debut goes to Selena Gomez & A$AP Rocky with "Good For You" at #40. This has a small future ahead of it, as it looks like this might turn into a one-weeker, at least for now. It has a shot of breaking out, but who knows when. This is Selena's first chart entry.
