Chart

James' Top 40 - March 25, 2015

Notes:

  • I'm done with predictions for this song. "Lampshades on Fire" by: Modest Mouse holds on to the top spot this week for a second consecutive week at #1. This week came down to the play counts between this and "Billion", since they were equal, "Lampshades on Fire" had the upperhand. These two should be the competition for next week's #1, but there is someone else that can fly above them (...again). The Top 5 stays the same as last week with no movement.
  • "The Business of Emotion" by: Big Data (feat. White Sea) flies into the Top 10 this week, going 12-6. It was in the Top 10 two weeks ago before falling out last week. It's able to get back in this week, and more. It puts up an astounding +13 play increase, mainly in part to his debut album, 2.0, being released this week. Big Data should see a huge week next week. 9 of the 10 songs appear on the chart, On the Rise, or Re-Entry Watch, and all 9 of those have decent shots at making the chart next week. I have been absolutely obsessed with it this past week and that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon. The album could perform similarly to Until the Ribbon Breaks' A Lesson Unlearnt. This is in contention of #1 next week, and it seems very possible.
  • Red picks up this week with "Darkest Part" going 9-7 for a new peak. The song keeps gaining gradually, and next week could see a possible Top 5 entry.
  • AWOLNATION flies 22-14 this week with "Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)". The song puts up a +5 increase, but with songs dropping above it, it was able to rise more than it should have. If it can put up a similar week next week, this could see the Top 10. AWOLNATION also debuts with "Woman Woman" this week, coming in at #39. It started off hot during the beginning of the week, but faltered midway. All of the songs from Run that were on On the Rise last week fall off (besides this obvi). This should be a one-weeker.
  • Wash and Imagine Dragons make little moves up as "Can't Trust Thots" and "I Bet My Life" move 16-15 and 18-17 respectively for new peaks. "Can't Trust Thots" should see a fall next week, and "I Bet My Life" could benefit from that. It's not nearing the end just yet, but it definitely won't be able to rise much higher. It should be able to secure the Top 15, potentially next week.
  • Big Data debuts two songs on top of a flurry of moves this week. "Clean" (feat. Jamie Lidell) takes the top debut at #21 this week with a 31 play debut. Some of it comes from previous weeks that I added in, but it makes it debut past On the Rise (wasn't on my iPod before). I've been getting really into this one, and it could steal the thunder that "The Business of Emotion" is starting to gain back. This could turn into a good album track (ex. "Go Quietly" (#24)). "The Glow" (feat. Kimbra) also debuts at the #40 spot. It just slid in this week, and should see a huge move next week. This is Kimbra's second chart entry, behind the #6-peaker that was "Somebody That I Used to Know", which she featured on opposite Gotye.
  • 4 new peaks occur in the Top 30 this week. "Contagious" by: Night Riots and "Untraveled Road" by: Thousand Foot Krutch make big strides this week, going 28-22 and 31-26 respectively for new peaks. "Contagious" will be seeking the Top 20 next week. "Heavy Is the Head" by: Zac Brown Band (feat. Chris Cornell) and "All Over" by: CRUISR make little moves for new peaks, going 29-28 and 33-30 respectively.
  • twenty one pilots score a debut this week with "Fairly Local" at #34. This is only a buzz single, but it should be able to hold on until the lead single ("Tear In My Heart") gets released in a few weeks. This is twenty one pilots' third chart entry, behind "Holding On To You" (#6) and "House of Gold" (#13).
  • In Memoriam: This week, we say goodbye to a big one from 2014. "Habits" by: Tove Lo falls off the chart from #39 this week, after spending 47 weeks on the chart. It debuted at #3 back on May 1, 2014, then hit #1 the following week and didn't look back. It led the chart for 13 straight weeks, leaving out countless potential #1s ("Kiss the Devil (Just A Gent Remix)", "Rude", "Words as Weapons", "Love Runs Out", "Headphones"). It stayed in the Top 10 for quite awhile afterwards also. It started to really falter after the extension happened, dropping like a fly in its dying weeks. It's sad to see that this was just 3 weeks away from hitting the 1 year mark. This likely will not re-enter, and reside in the Hall of Fame. Tove Lo will look to continue the success this had, but it has been a struggle so far. "Talking Body" is sitting at its peak position of #13, and its run has not been friendly. It's been a fighter, and it will be soon before long before the fight is over with. Let's hope for the best for her in the coming years. R.I.P.
