Chart

James' Top 40 - March 4, 2015

5 debuts!

Notes:

  • "She Keeps Me Up" by: Nickelback leads the chart again this week for its second consecutive, and fourth overall. It's pretty far ahead in the lead, so next week is another pretty for sure week atop. But one song is gaining a lot of momentum and could possibly dethrone it.
  • Modest Mouse keeps defying odds as "Lampshades on Fire" beats my prediction yet again and climbs 3-2 for a new peak. At first, it looked like it would peak at #4 and stall there before falling, but it kept pushing forward. This week was pretty easy week to get the #2 spot as "A Taste of Silver" (2-4) had yet another slow week, pretty much ruining its chances to reclaim the throne. I say this with a lot of certainty: this will not hit #1. There is no way. Buuut, I have been proven wrong the last two times, and look where it is now.
  • Mat Kearney has himself a great week. "Billion" puts up big numbers yet again this week with a +9 play increase to climb 5-3 for a new peak. This one has a lot of momentum behind it right now, and is realistically the only one that can possibly dethrone "She Keeps Me Up" next week. The only drawback for the track as it won't have the first week momentum that his album, JUST KIDS, was able to bring. Next week could be challenging, but achievable.
  • "Satellite" by: Nickelback climbs 12-7 this week for a new peak. It keeps trucking along and Top 5 could be an easy grab next week with 3 songs above it starting to falter a bit.
  • You may think Modest Mouse may have defied odds quite a bit these past weeks, but no one has defied odds more than "I Want Out" by: Young Guns. "I Want Out" climbs 12 positions with an outstanding +17 play increase this week, going 23-11 for a new peak. After originally being thought of as a filler track, it has really come into its own during its stay. Now the +17 seems a little odd for a pretty older track, here is why it did so much damage this week. The original version is the single version (what has been charting), but now they released an album version, which is a lot harder (harder riffs, louder drums, etc.), which has propelled this track. I was originally going to split the two, but it made more sense to combine them since they were just different productions, not like a remix (which I do split). The album version picked up 13 plays this week, while the single version picked up 4. Well with its newfound momentum, this will seek the Top 10 next week.
  • "Honey, I'm Good." by: Andy Grammer climbs 16-14 this week for a new peak. It didn't put up any increases, but with songs falling above it, this should be able to climb a bit based off of nothing.
  • "Darkest Part" by: Red climbs 27-19 in its second week for a new peak. The track will look for the Top 10 soon, but probably not for a few weeks.
  • "First" by: Cold War Kids climbs 26-21 this week for a new peak. With "All This Could Be Yours" (13-15) and "Go Quietly" (14-16) starting to fall, this should surpass both in the near future. It's starting to gain some momentum and next week might be the week it breaks out.
  • Imagine Dragons has an up and down week this week (mostly down) after a stellar week last week. "Gold" climbs 26-25 for a new peak, "I Bet My Life" stays steady at its peak #28, "Dream" drops 34-39, and "I'm So Sorry" & "Shots" fall off the chart. Next week, "Dream" should be gone. "Shots" will probably re-enter soon since it is the next single. With that being the next single, "Gold" is bound to drop soon also, maybe even next week.
  • "Can't Trust Thots" by: Wash (feat. French Montana) takes the top debut this week at #26. This is both acts' first chart appearances. It just missed the On the Rise last week, as I downloaded right after I posted the chart, so it got a full week under its belt and was able to fly over On the Rise. This should at least approach the Top 20 next week.
  • "Speaking In Tongues" by: Young Guns debuts at #31 this week. It really benefitted from "I Want Out" having such a huge week, as I have been getting into Young Guns quite a bit now. This should be able to climb next week and easily get into the Top 30, but how long it lasts is in question. It's not slated to be the next rock single in the US, as "Rising Up" will take that honor. But I like this more, so who knows.
  • Night Riots also make their chart debut this week with "Contagious" coming in at #36. This one should be able to see a good run as I am starting to get into a lot more. This probably should have debuted when I extended the chart, but it'll start a few weeks behind. This could breakout next week also.
  • Mat Kearney debuts two tracks from JUST KIDS this week, "Moving On" and "Miss You" at #37 and #40 respectively. "Moving On" made some progress over the week, as it was the lowest track from the album on On the Rise, but was able to top all of them. The song really grew on me over the week and is now my second favorite behind "Billion". "Miss You" barely debuted this week, as it started off big in the week, but faltered towards the end. Nonetheless it debuts, and will probably be a one-weeker. "One Heart", "Ghost", and "Heartbeat" all reappear on On the Rise this week.
  • With the 5 debuts coming in, we had to say goodbye to 5. "Twin Skeleton's (Hotel In NYC)" and "Wet Dreamz" both end their miserable drops this week. "Twin Skeleton's (Hotel In NYC)" also breaks a record (not one you want to break), as it takes the biggest fall off the chart in chart history (from #30; 10 positions). The previous record was held by "Blame" by: Calvin Harris (feat. John Newman), which fell off 9 positions. "Angel" by: Theory of a Deadman ends its second run, as it was very underwhelming. It looked like it could breakout when it reentered, but couldn't do anything on the chart. It could get a third possible run, but who knows.
