James' Top 40 - May 27, 2015

Notes:

  • Cold War Kids secure the second week on the top with "First". It barely holds on as "A Taste of Silver" had it beat in the play increase column, but last week's zero movement for the 10 week #1 really downed it. Next week should see a battle between the Top 3 for #1.
  • "My Type" rises into the Top 3, going 5-3 for a new peak. The song has been gaining back its momentum and is now looking at a fair shot at #1 next week. If it does hit the top, it could be able to hold on for awhile before "Crave" looks to come in, as that seems to be the song to beat right now.
  • Starset make their way into the Top 10 with "Halo", going 13-9 for a new peak. This becomes their highest charting song now, and it'll look to climb a lot more. This has been a pretty big surprise coming in, as it just keeps motoring along. Right now, this might be in contention for #1, but it doesn't look like it'll be able to keep the speed it has right now for very long. How long it keeps its speed could show what its peak could be.
  • "Crave" climbs into the Top 10 zooming 17-10 for a new peak. It has had two straight 7 position movements coming out of its debut, and next week could see another big one. This has the looks of a long multi-week #1, and it could happen soon.
  • Allen Stone keeps moving up as "Freedom" enters the Top 20, going 21-16. This also has a good look to it, but not a #1 look. This should be an easy Top 5 hit, and a potential Song of the Summer. This also marks Talay Riley's return to the chart as he has a writing credit on the song, something I didn't know until a few days ago.
  • "Good Thing" moves 28-20 for a new peak. The song was looking at a big movement considering most of its points from last week were in a two day span. With a full week under its belt, it was able to take advantage. This is yet another song that could be a Song of the Summer, and also has its eyes set on the top.
  • Imagine Dragons and Nickelback both move into the Top 30 as "Shots" rockets 34-28 for a new peak, and "Get 'Em Up" goes 36-29. "Shots" is looking like "I Bet My Life", which was a late bloomer, and this should do the same. "Get 'Em Up" has awhile to go to beat its #9 peak set back in November 2014, but it could end up getting there.
  • New Politics find their second charter in the Vikings era, as "West End Kids" debuts at #35. The lead single, "Everywhere I Go (Kings & Queens)", only peaked at #16, but this looks like it could beat that, but things could be shaky. The chorus on the song is outstanding, but the verses, like the lead single, leave little to be desired. Whether or not the verses grow on me should show the life of this song. It does have the potential to be a Top 10, but it also has the potential to be a flop. For now, it's Top 10 looking.
  • tobyMac finds a small debut at #38 with "Beyond Me". Christian music finds its way onto my chart every now and then ("One Heart" and "Untraveled Road" from this year), with varying results. tobyMac is up there with Mat Kearney (who is and isn't a Christian artist), Thousand Foot Krutch, and Switchfoot as the top Christian artists in chart history. Toby has seen 3 other songs chart: "Tonight" (#8), "Get Back Up" (#17), and "Me Without You" (#6). This one should see some minor success, similar to "Tonight", but then again, times have changed as that charted back when it was a Top 25 (pre-Pulse days lol). It's also nice to see two Christian songs next to a song titled "Bitches N Marijuana" lmao.
