Chart

James' Top 70 - February 16, 2017

6 debuts!

Notes:

  • Run River North holds at #1 this week with "29" for its second week atop the charts. This has actually started to distance itself and has pretty much locked in a third week for next week. "Diagram of a Simple Man" (3-3) should start to challenge it in two weeks when Colliding by Design releases on the 24th.
  • Thrice has themselves a solid week. "Black Honey" lifts up (6-5) for a new peak in the Top 5. It's starting to slow down, so I don't see this peaking much higher. #4 might be its highest attainable peak, but this might start falling soon. "Stay with Me" takes a 15 position jump this week, by going 35-20 for a new peak. This is red hot right now and will be seeking the Top 10 soon. This has a shot at going #1 actually. Thrice also debuts "Blood on the Sand" at #66 this week. They should be able to chart three songs concurrently for the time being. I see this one doing well also.
  • As Thrice has a solid week, so does Sundara Karma, who make their chart debut this week with 3 songs. Their debut album Youth is Only Ever Fun in Retrospect came out about a month ago, and I finally just spun it and enjoyed it a lot. The top debut goes to "A Young Understanding" at #37. This one is not the single that is being promoted in the US currently, but I will chart this one as the single now. I really enjoy this right now, and I see this being Top 10 soon. "She Said", the current single, debuts at #64. I probably will chart this and "A Young Understanding" at the same time, but this will be the far lesser of the two. I can see a Top 40 peak for this in the current 70 position setting. "Loveblood" debuts at #69 as well. This has been done at Alternative for awhile, but this randomly grew on me right before I downloaded the album. This will probably end up being just a one-weeker, so I can put my focus on the two previously aforementioned.
  • Katy Perry returns to the chart this week with "Chained to the Rhythm" coming in at #52. This is Katy's first charter since "California Gurls", which peaked at #12. She missed the chart with "Birthday", which has unashamedly turned into one of my favorites from her, since I got into a little late. This should turn into a decent hit for her. Maybe somewhere in the Top 30 with potential to grow.
  • Maroon 5 finally see their comeback to the chart for the first time since 2015 with "Cold" debuting at #58. It's a solid debut for a song that only got two days of charting. Their last four singles ("Sugar", "This Summer's Gonna Hurt...", "Feelings", "Don't Wanna Know") missed the chart, but they did see a random charter in "Coming Back for You" (#35). Their last album produced three Top 10 hits, but hit a brick wall halfway through "Animals" run, which looked like a future #1 but halted after 3 weeks when it peaked at #6. This could do decent, but I'm not expecting much since now it is basically the Adam Levine show rather than Maroon 5.
