Chart

James' Top 70 - February 2, 2017

So, I've decided that I'll be trimming the chart down to 50 soon. I've noticed there's been a lot of deadweight on the chart, and a lot of songs are just kinda here lol. Also, I've noticed viewership in the chart has gone way down this past year. I feel part of it is because none of y'all even know these songs lmao. Popular music just wasn't great to me last year, so a lot of songs on here didn't even see the Hot 100, or even a Billboard chart for that matter. I hope things pick back up on 2017, but who knows honestly.

The deextension is not going to happen next week (probably not for another month or so), but when the time does come, I won't just be removing 51-70. I'll retool the chart a bit, so some songs even in the 20s could get dropped, while some songs on the 60s could get boosted.

I'll give you guys a week warning when it does happen.

And on the chart this week, we have 5 debuts!

Notes:

  • COIN holds the top spot this week with "Talk Too Much" for its third week on top. Next week will get a little more competitive, as some songs in the Top 5 have a shot at #1, while there is the potential of a #1 debut incoming from Nickelback.
  • "29" rises into the Top 5, going 10-5 for a new peak. I foreshadowed last week that it was poised for a big move this week, and it rung true. I can see this going into the Top 3 next week, which will match "Run or Hide"'s #3 peak at least. This has potential to go #1 in the future.
  • "Pause" spends its 52nd week on the chart, marking another song for SafetySuit that passes that threshold. I don't see this lasting much longer though. I was actually going to purge this a few weeks ago, but I decided to let it run to 52 weeks before I did that. Now, this might be time to purge. Not that losing one SafetySuit song is going to hurt the chart since they have 8 others on the chart lol.
  • The top debut this week goes to Urban Cone with "Old School" at #42 this week. This is a fun little indie pop song, that reminds me strongly of "Talk Too Much". With that comparison, I could see this doing similarly to the current #1. This has the potential to explode soon, but I see this one taking a bit of a slower rise than "Talk Too Much" did.
  • Ricky Reed debuts a new song on the chart this week with "Be the 1" at #51. This comes after his debut single "Express Myself" (35-36), and it looks like this might be his actual single. This probably comes at perfect timing, as I was not really sure what to do with "Express Myself". It brickwalled very quickly and only peaked at #25 after a #31 debut. "Be the 1" will likely just take over. Hopefully this time it will do better than its predecessor.
  • Mondo Cozmo make their chart debut this week with "Shine" at #61. This one has been around On the Rise for around a month now, but just this week it really hit me. I see this one doing very well right now. This has potential to go Top 20.
  • We have a new Anti-Trump song on the chart, as The Bright Light Social Hour make their chart debut with "Tear Down That Wall" at #66. Just by looking at the title, you already know it's bashing Trump lol. This should do pretty moderate, maybe a peak around the 40s.
  • The final debut this week goes to Acceptance, as they debut their new promotional single "Haunted" at #68. As "Diagram of a Simple Man" (2-2) is killing it right now, this will likely be just a one-off single for the time being. It should reappear when their album releases in two weeks.

I think its window has passed for the time being. :/

If it was going to debut, it would have been this week with the album release in aid, but it wasn't enough. Hope it's a single!
