Chart

James' Top 70 - January 21, 2016

New #1!

7 new entries!

Notes:

  • In a somewhat surprising but not surprising move, "Falling Apart" takes another huge hike this week to get #1, jumping from #9. This has definitely ridden a hot hand since its debut and isstill running high. This has the potential to be a long-running #1 considering there is no song that will be close to #1 by the time this starts to fall back down to earth. It's going to take it and sprint with it. Its chart run so far has been: 42-30-19-9-1. Simply outstanding. This is easily one of the best #1 runs in chart history ("End of the World" has it beat: 30-9-1, which is likely the record; "A Taste of Silver" went 15-13-1, so take whichever you'd like).
  • "Cake By The Ocean" continues its good rebound as it now climbs back into the Top 10, going 13-10. Its peak is #9, and it could definitely match that again, but beyond that is going to be hard. The whole chart right now is very competitive from #2-#70, so having a good week is crucial.
  • Talay Riley pushes himself into the Top 20 with "101" climbing 23-19 for a new peak. This has definitely been a bit of a surprise hit considering I wasn't totally sold on it at first, but this could be another one (word to DJ Khaled) for Talay. This has taken the thunder from "1 AM" (32-33), which was shaping up to be a hit for him until this came along. "1 AM" could break into the Top 30, but it might take a bit. Talay also scores yet another debut with "Pink Cocaine" at #70. This has the makings of a minor hit, but we'll see since it debuts right at the bottom. And to think of it, none of these songs are Talay's actual debut single, so when that comes, he'll be owning the chart.
  • Charles Kelley has himself a successful week, as "The Driver" jumps 37-27 this week for a new peak. The song is definitely coming into its own and is looking like an eventual Top 10 hit. This could be taking some big jumps until his album (aptly titledThe Driver) releases, and could see some more songs chart. Also, one does, as "Lonely Girl" is the top debut this week at #57. This could turn into a hit along with "The Driver" despite it being just an album track at the moment, so those two will chart against each other.
  • "Goldfish" swims to the Top 30 this week, going 34-30 for a new peak. Until the Ribbon Breaks keeps the momentum going into 2016 after a stellar 2015 with a slew of award wins (hint hint hint). They're looking to snatch the crown again, but there is a lot more competition coming (SafetySuit!). If they release their second album sometime this year, there could be a huge competition between the two artists.
  • BANNERS also has himself a successful week, with a lot of help coming from his stellar self-titled debut EP. "Shine A Light" moves 47-39 this week, finally having the breakout week it has been waiting for since the expansion. This probably got things moving and should now become a hit. He also debuts "Start A Riot" at #59 this week. That should be able to chart nicely, but it could be a slow climber after it comes down. He should have another big week next week and could potentially chart all of the tracks from his EP (which the remainder are on On the Rise).
  • "Burning House" (54-48) and "Get Ugly" (51-49) both climb into the Top 50 with new peaks for both of them.
  • "Antidote" blasts 61-56 this week for a new peak. This has definitely hit a hot streak as of late and could be a breakout candidate. It has stayed in the latter half of the 60s during the whole expansion up until last week. Now it looks to be finally moving.
  • Panic! At The Disco debuts "Victorious" this week at #60. I started off not liking this, but something hit me last week and now I love it. This has the potential to be a hit on the chart, but it also has a good chance of having a high burn rate, which could result in a lower peak. Time will tell. This is Panic!'s second chart entry following "Miss Jackson", which peaked at #12 a few years back.
  • Drake & Future debut "Jumpman" this week at #66. This is one catchy ass song and could definitely do well. I didn't give it too much attention until about a month or two ago and it has slowly been turning into one of my favorites at the moment.
  • After debuting "Stressed Out" (69-65) last week, twenty one pilots score another song this week as "Ride" re-enters the chart at #67 this week. This was on the chart for two weeks and peaked at #37 (seems like a popular album track peak lol) back when Blurryface was released. This will undoubtedly be the most successful of the singles from the album and could be a potential Top 10 candidate in the future.
  • "Love Yourself" re-enters the chart this week at #69. This got one week on the chart back when the 70 extension started, but was on the unpublished one. It peaked at #68. It'll easily beat it, but the real question is whether or not Justin can score three Top 10 hits from the album. There's definitely a shot, but this one might fall short.
