Chart

the cm70 - February 18, 2016

Notes:

  • "Looking Up" holds the top spot again this week for a 6th total week. Things have been looking good for SafetySuit over the past few weeks, but they'll likely start to come down with their older songs by next week. This is starting to distance itself from "Falling Apart" (#2), but things are still relatively close.
  • DNCE score a Top 3 hit now as "Cake By The Ocean" climbs 4-3 for a new peak. The resurgence has been real for this, but it might end here. It's very far away from the #1 and #2 spots, and it would take awhile to get there. This should be able to hold onto the #3 spot for a couple weeks, then maybe it can climb again.
  • Talay Riley adds another Top 10 hit to his credit, as "101" climbs 12-8 for a new peak. The song has been rising very nicely since its debut and will look to climb again next week. This has the potential to hit the Top 3 since the songs above it are starting to age a bit. This, "1 AM" (31-30), and "Pink Cocaine" (58-56) will be the perfect buffers until Talay unleashes his actual Island debut. Shit's gon be cray cray.
  • Aaaaaand "Never Stop" re-enters the Top 20, going 21-20 this week.  The SafetySuit high has been pretty big the past few weeks, and this is benefitting from it. It's lifted over 15 plays in the past few weeks, so it's well deserved. Next week it should probably drop back out of the Top 20, but it's a nice reappearance for the song.
  • As "Junkyard" (11-14) starts its fall, Zac Brown Band has another lined up with "Beautiful Drug" starting to move a bit. It goes 32-29 for a new peak, taking 19 weeks to get into the Top 30. It's going to be a struggle for it to get into the Top 20, but this is going to be a long-running song nonetheless. The aging of the song is definitely turning down its chances to do as well as it could have in the beginning of its run.
  • Sam Hunt has himself a nice week, as he climbs with all three of his songs, and sees a small appearance on On the Rise. "Heartbeat" (background vocals) climbs 20-17, "Break Up In A Small Town" moves 33-31, and "House Party" blasts 39-35, all for new peaks. "Break Up In A Small Town" should be able to hit the Top 30 soon, and "House Party" has an outside shot at it. "Make You Miss Me" might actually be looked over this time since I got into both BUIAST and HP pretty late, but if it does debut, it probably would peak somewhere in the 60s.
  • "Dancing Around It" climbs into the Top 40 this week, going 42-40 for a new peak. The album track has been doing very well and should continue to do so. Charles Kelley is approaching the Top 10 with "The Driver" (15-12), and this could potentially follow in the future.
  • "PILLOWTALK" continues its fast ascent as it blasts 54-47 this week for a new peak. It has been moving rather quickly and has a good shot at continuing the pace for awhile longer. This actually has a shot for Top 10 in the future.
  • Three debuts from last week climb into the Top 60 this week. "Ocean Drive" rises 61-54, "Pause" climbs 63-58, and "Time Out" climbs 65-60. All three are looking to be hits on the chart, but the latter two might have to take their time on it.
  • The top debut belongs to Run River North, as they debut "Run Or Hide" at #65. I heard the song on Cool New Music a few weeks ago and enjoyed it, but didn't think much of it at first. Over the weekend I heard it on Alt Nation and I fell in love right there. I've been getting real into it lately, and next week should see a big gain as it will have a full week under its belt. This could potentially be a Top 10 hit, but Top 20 seems certain.
  • It took awhile, but WALK THE MOON finally charts a follow-up to "Shut Up and Dance" (#1). "Work This Body" debuts this week at #66, but with a weak landing. This more got in because of the two recurrents and the easy drop of "Hymn For The Weekend". This will likely take its time to find its footing, but it should be able to walk around in the 60s until it finally takes off. This likely won't replicate the huge success that was "Shut Up and Dance", as I have been into this for quite awhile now, but it will look to do what it can. "Different Colors" was totally looked over on the chart, so this will look to make up the lost time for it.
  • The final debut goes to "Trip Switch" at #69. This was more of a shoo-in and more charting for the sake of charting it, but it actually could take off. I didn't really care for the song at first, as I don't care for the verses, but that chorus is golden. It has been growing on me a lot since I downloaded it last week, and it'll look to do some damage if it can.
