Joseph's Hit 40

In a four-way battle for #1 this week, Harry Styles loses his crown and drops to #4, despite being comfortable ahead of everything else still. This leaves three spots for new tracks to fill, and leading the way, ahead of chart heavyweights Shawn Mendes and Charlie Puth, is a #1 debut from We the Kings. I expect many of you won't have heard of We the Kings before, but they're an American pop/rock band, fronted by Travis Clark. The credit for Sad Song is quite complicated, because I've been listening to two separate versions. The bulk of the plays come from the RJ Remix, which features Olivia Holt, and is the credited version here. The album version however has been getting some plays too, and that features Elena Coats. It's the first #1 single for all three artists, and the first chart appearance overall for Elana. We the Kings previously made my top 20 at the end of 2015 with album track I Like It, while Olivia made her chart debut just last week, with MYBADD on the track Party On a Weekday, which has dropped out this week.

Just losing out on the top spot is Shawn Mendes, who jumps up five places to #2 in his first full week with There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back. Shawn's previously achieved three #1 singles, his first being in 2014 with The Vamps on Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart), before both Stitches and Treat You Better topped my chart in 2016. Shawn brings his tally of top 10 hits to seven, all of which have made the top 5.

This week's highest climber is from Charlie Puth, who jumps 12 places to #3 to score his fifth top 10 hit. Attention is his second highest charting single, now only trailing Selena Gomez collaboration We Don't Talk Anymore, which made #1 for two weeks at the start of 2016. His last top 10 hit came at the end of 2016, as Oops with Little Mix made it to #7 without actually being an official single.

The final new entry in this week's top 10 comes from Dua Lipa, who scores her fifth top 10 hit and first since Scared to Be Lonely, which departs this week. Lost in Your Light features Miguel, who scores his fourth chart hit, and second top 10 after #Beautiful with Mariah Carey, which also made #9 and is interestingly my longest running #9 hit.

Elsewhere this week, we see the return of MØ, who just missed out on her seventh top 10 with Nights With You as it debuts at #14. There are also new entries from Paramore and Chase Atlantic, as well as new releases from The Vamps & Martin Jensen, Kygo & Ellie Goulding and Katy Perry featuring Migos which I will talk about next week in more detail! Making their chart debuts this week, alongside Elena Coats, are Luis Fonsi, and both Perttu and Yates whose song Good Good enters at #37.
