Bryan Adams and Melanie C fight off Lenny Kravitz for Number 1

Bryan Adams and Melanie C hold at Number 1 for a third consecutive week with When You’re Gone. The single is the first solo chart-topper by a member of the Spice Girls. The song receives a Gold Certification this week, as the release has amassed over 40,000 points. The song faces some competition from Lenny Kravitz, whom peaks in the second position with the mega hit Fly Away. The single is Lenny Kravitz his debut entry on this list. The duet between Bryan and Melanie C does easily holds its crown, aided by huge international sales.

German DJ ATB steps into the Top 10 with 9 PM (Till I Come). It has been a while since German acts have had proper success on this list. The last German successes were Mr. President and Captain Jack, whom both topped the charts in the summer of 1996. Producer ATB marks a new success. The single 9 PM (Till I Come) was released as his debut single and the lead single from his debut album “Movin' Melodies”. This week, ATB peaks at Number 8.

Britney Spears scores her first ever Top 10-hit with … Baby One More Time. In the United States, the single is already a huge million-seller and Britney Spears is a nationwide phenomenon. The song peaked at Number 1 and made Britney Spears one of the youngest singers to ever achieve the crown position, only aged sixteen. The teen-songstress now takes the globe with amazing speed. The single already hit the top spot in the United Kingdom. On this list, … Baby One More Time peaks at Number 10 this week, but further success is promised.

Destiny’s Child scores the highest debut of the week alongside Timbaland. The American girl group already scored a strong Top 10-hit with No, No, No (Part 2) alongside ex-Fugees rapper Wyclef Jean.  Their subsequent debut album “Destiny’s Child” was a moderate success as well. Destiny’s Child now enter with Get On The Bus, taken from the international version of their album “The Writings on the Wall”, which will be released soon. The girls are aided by Timbaland, who produced previous hits such as Are You That Somebody by Aaliyah. Destiny’s Child and Timbaland debut at Number 18 this week.

Robbie Williams receives a Gold Certification for his Top 10-single No Regrets. The song was released as the follow-up to the widely successful Number 1-hit Millennium, giving the single high expectations upon release. The song certainly lived up to its predecessor and became the English singer’s sixth single to achieve a Top 10-position. The song peaked at Number 3 and seven consecutive weeks in the Top 10. As of this week, No Regrets has amassed over 40,000 points.

For the film “Prince of Egypt”, pop divas Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey collaborated on a massive hit; When You Believe. The power ballad peaked at Number 3 a few weeks ago and became Mariah Carey her sixth Top 10-hit and Whitney Houston her second Top 10-hit. In the United States, the duet was a million-seller as well. As of this week, the song has amassed over 40,000 points. The song is Whitney Houston her best-scoring release to date. Mariah Carey her best-scoring release to date remains One Sweet Day with 91,000 points.
