Guus Meeuwis and Vagant score their fourth Top 10-entry with Verliefd Zijn. The Dutch band has scored two Number 1s with Het Is Een Nacht… (Levensecht), which is the best-scoring single of all time, and Per Spoor (Kedeng Kedeng), which was the best-scoring single of 1996. Additionally, the Dutch singers scored a Top 10-hit with Zo Ver Weg earlier last year. Their newest single peaks at Number 8 this week.
White Town scores his first Top 10-entry with Your Woman. The British producer has not entered the list before, making Your Woman his debut single on the list. The song peaked at Number 1 in the United Kingdom and is currently reaching the Top 20 in countries worldwide. Your Woman reaches Number 10 this week.
Blum scores the highest debut of the week. The British rock band consists of Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree. The group is considered one of the biggest Britpop bands of the late 90s, rivalling successes such as Oasis. The group has not entered this list before, making Beetleblum their debut single. The song is already a big hit in the United Kingdom, where it opened at Number 1. Blur opens at Number 27 on this list.
The Spice Girls celebrate a 3 x Platinum Certification for their massive hit Wannabe. The song has racked up 140,000 points and is still charting. The single peaked at Number 1 for ten consecutive weeks and was the beginning of the girls’ reign on the charts. The hit is currently the best-scoring single by a female act and overall the third-best-scoring single of all time. The Spice Girls went up to score two other Number 1-hits with Say You’ll Be There and 2 Become 1, with many more hits waiting to come.
