Lady Gaga is back! Following the release of her comeback album Mayhem, Lady Gaga propels the hit single “Abracadabra” all the way up to the top of my chart. Interpolating "Spellbound" by Siouxsie and the Banshees, the new Gaga-single was first teased during a commercial break at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, and was later released across the internet. It sees Lady Gaga returning to top form, echoing back to her heyday in the early 2010s. As “Abracadabra” claims the summit, Lady Gaga earns her first solo Number 1-peak since 2011’s “Judas” and her seventh overall. She recently topped the list with “Die With a Smile” in collaboration with Bruno Mars. “Abracadabra” continues a new trend of 2000s-centered artists making a comeback thanks to streaming, joining Kylie Minogue her “Padam, Padam” or Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”. Lady Gaga fends off Antoon his comeback song “Beetje Van Mij” which topped my chart for three consecutive weeks.
In 2023, Dutch singer and TikTok-star Roxy Dekker released her debut single “Anne-Fleur Vakantie” after a fan suggested five words on which to base an entire song. Little did anyone suspect this was the start of Roxy Dekker’s soon-to-be enormously successful career. Following an Antoon-produced Top 10-hit with “Satisfyer”, the young star shot straight to Number 1 with “Sugardaddy” following a smart marketing campaign on TikTok. More consecutive Top 5-hits followed, cementing the meteoric rise of Roxy Dekker across The Netherlands and Belgium. This week, the Amsterdam-based star released her highly anticipated debut album. Including all the previous singles and six new songs, the entire album took over the Spotify Top 50, making it one of the most successful streaming debuts for a Dutch artist of all time. Leading the charge is “Casual”, the album’s newest single, which debuts at #3 on the chart. It earns Roxy Dekker her seventh consecutive Top 10-hit to date, an unmatched feat by any Dutch star. Meanwhile, the previous song “Ga Dan!” returns to #7.
Further down, Dutch couple-turned-singers – or was it the other way around? – Suzan & Freek make their return to the Top 10 with “Ken Je Dat Gevoel?” at #9 this week. The musical duo rose to fame in 2018 when “Als Het Avond Is” became a mega-selling national hit. Since then, Suzan & Freek scored ten consecutive Top 10-hits, being credited with boosting the newfound popularity of Dutch pop in the 2020s. Their last album, however, was a commercial letdown and did not produce as many hit singles as its predecessors. With the Goldband-esque “Ken Je Dat Gevoel?”, Suzan & Freek aim for a proper smash hit again, finally breaking the Top 10 after months stuck just outside the door. It is certainly performing well on Dutch radio. It marks Suzan & Freek their first Top 10-peak since 2023’s synth-driven “Slapeloosheid”. Overall, it earns the couple their twelfth Top 10-single overall.
In 2020, South-Korean girl group Blackpink scored a string of small hits on this personal chart, most successful being “Sour Candy” in collaboration with Lady Gaga. Since then, the girls have gone on an hiatus and kickstarted their solo careers. Over the last couple of months, the girls have hit us with their first solo efforts, including Rosé international chart-topping hit “APT.” or Lisa’s showstopping cross-over “Born Again” alongside Doja Cat and Raye. This week, Jennie scores the highest-peaking solo-Blackpink song to date as she debuts at #16 with “Handlebars”, taken off her debut solo record Ruby released last week. It was preceded by the internationally successful “Mantra” and a collaboration with The Weeknd for The Idol Soundtrack. On “Handlebars”, Jennie is supported by none other than Dua Lipa. She’s in the midst of her Radical Optimism Tour to support her third album of the same name. It produced the Number 1s “Houdini” and “Training Season”. With that kind of company, Jennie could be on the verge of a solo breakout. “Handlebars” starts at #16 this week.
Måneskin’s Damiano David makes his solo debut at #35 with the Harry Styles-sounding “Born With a Broken Heart”. His band won Eurovision in 2021 representing Italy and broke through across Europe, scoring back-to-back hits. On my chart, their rock-driven “Supermodel” was certified gold. We are yet to see if Damiano David can recreate the same success on his own. Further down, Dutch singer Luna makes her Top 40-debut with the darling “Liefste”. The 21-year-old singer scored a surprise national hit last year when her Dutch cover of Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” went viral and soared into the Top 10 – though it did not appear on my own chart. With the original and very Roxy Dekker-inspired “Liefste”, Luna is up for her first Top 40-hit. It’s no surprise it is so catchy, since it is again produced by the chart-topping Antoon. Beside producing his own Number 1s, he also produced Roxy Dekker’s “Satisfyer”, Maan her lead single “Leven” and the platinum “Ik Haat Hem Voor Jou” by Froukje and S10.
