LeAnn Rimes her single is becoming a massive hit around the world, especially in the United States and the United Kingdom. On this list, How Do I Live fights off strong competition from BLØF at Number 2. LeAnn Rimes successfully dethrones the Spice Girls’ Stop after it spent two weeks above the list.
Eagle-Eye Cherry steps into the Top 10 with Save Tonight. Eagle-Eye Cherry is a Swedish singer who is currently breaking through with his debut album “Desireless”. The album was written completely by himself in his bedroom, shortly after his father passed away. His extreme hard work has led to success, as the album is climbing the album charts worldwide. Save Tonight is the lead single of the album, which is also becoming a worldwide success. This week, Eagle-Eye’s Save Tonight marks the singer’s first ever Top 10-hit. The single peaks at Number 4 this week.
Ricky Martin scores the highest debut of the week. The Puerto Rican heartthrob has already made a name for himself on this list with his debut single María. The single was a phenomenal success, peaking at Number 1 for five consecutive week and becoming the second-best scoring single released in 1997. As of late, the single celebrates a 3 x Platinum-status. His newest single Copa de la Vida is the official song of the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. The single makes a big debut, entering at Number 19 this week.
Although BLØF misses the top spot this week, their Number 2-single Liefs Uit Londen receives a Gold Certification this week. BLØF is becoming a huge national success, climbing the Dutch charts rapidly. Their additional album “Helder” is also becoming a hit on the charts. As of this week, BLØF their debut single has amassed over 40,000 points.
Robbie Williams receives a Platinum Certification for his hit single Angels. The single peaked at Number 2, only behind Janet Jackson with Together Again, but became a huge success anyway. The single is Robbie Williams his biggest success since his first solo single Freedom, which he released after his career with Take That. His newest Platinum Certification also marks Robbie Williams as the most successful member of Take That to go solo, even surpassing Gary Barlow. As of this week, Angels has amassed over 65,000 points.
The Spice Girls receive a 2 x Platinum Certification for their seventh Number 1-hit Too Much. The single served as the second single of their sophomore album “Spiceworld” and became another huge hit for the British girl group. It was the Christmas Number 1-hit of 1997 and went on to spend five consecutive weeks above the list. As of this week, the single has amassed over 90,000 points. This is the girls’ seventh 2 x Platinum-certified single on this list.
