Ricky Martin and *NSYNC go head to head for this week’s Number 1 + Marco Borsato makes a big return to the Top 10

Ricky Martin remains unstoppable at Number 1 with María, scoring a fourth consecutive week above the list. The song is becoming an international success and the Puerto Rican heartthrob  his big breakthrough in many non-Spanish speaking countries. On this list, María has earned over 40,000 points, earning the single a Gold Certification. Ricky Martin remains to face strong competition from *NSYNC in second.

Marco Borsato makes his highly anticipated return with Wereld Zonder Jou. The Dutch singer has left a huge legacy on the list, having scored eleven entries including seven Top 10-hits. His repertoire includes successes such as the Platinum-certified Je Hoeft Niet Naar Huis Vannacht and the Gold-certified Vrij Zijn. In February 1996, Marco Borsato scored a Number 1-hit with Ik Leef Niet Meer Voor Jou, which went on to spent four weeks above the list and received a Platinum Certification. His last entrance on the list dates back to December 1997 following the not so successful Denk Aan Mij. He now returns in full glory with Wereld Zonder Jou alongside Trijntje Oosterhuis. Miss Oosterhuis is a member of the group Total Touch, with whom she scored the big Platinum-certified hit Somebody Else’s Lover earlier last year, but now she goes solo with her first proper solo-hit. Together, Marco Borsato and Trijntje Oosterhuis storm into the Top 10 and debut at Number 8.

Daft Punk might sound rightfully unknown, as the duo is an up-and-coming phenomenon. The French electronic-duo formed in Paris and signed to Virgin Records in 1996, releasing their first single Da Funk. Their newest effort, Around the World, is becoming their first proper hit, scoring successes around the world. On this list, the single peaked at Number 3. Around the World receives a Gold Certification this week, having scored over 40,000 points. This is Daft Punk’s first certification on this list.
