The Spice Girls score the Official Christmas Number 1 of 1997

The Spice Girls celebrate a second week at Number 1 with Too Much. The ballad is the girls’ seventh chart-topper, following successes such as Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life. Additionally, Too Much has become the Official Christmas Number 1 of 1997. The song is the Spice Girls' second consecutive Christmas Number 1-single, as 2 Become 1 was the Christmas Number 1 of 1996. The Spice Girls fight off competition from Natalie Imbruglia, who aims to reclaim the crown position.

Released as the second single of “Spiceworld”, Too Much was met with high anticipation around the world. It debuted above the UK Singles Chart, becoming the group's second consecutive Christmas Number 1-single, and their sixth consecutive chart-topper, which made them the first act to have its first six singles reach Number 1 the United Kingdom. It also debuted inside the Top 20 on the majority of the charts that it entered, including countries such as Australia.

Christmas is not Christmas if Mariah Carey does not return to the Top 10 with All I Want for Christmas Is You. Every year since 1995, the Christmas ballad peaks within the Top 10. Initially, the single had reached a peak at Number 4, but this year, the single climbs to Number 3. The song could become Mariah Carey her third Number 1-hit following Fantasy and One Sweet Day. Additionally, All I Want for Christmas Is You receives a Gold Certification. As of this week, the song has amassed over 40,000.

Sheryl Crow scores her first Top 10-entry with Tomorrow Never Dies. The song serves as the title song of the James Bond film of the same name. The film starring Pierce Brosnan and Michelle Yeoh is a massive box office hit, grossing $25,143,007 in its opening weekend. The success of the film aids the success of Sheryl Crow her single, as the song jumps to Number 6 this week. Only two other James Bond theme songs have entered the Top 10 before; Sheena Easton peaked at Number 8 with For Your Eyes Only and Tina Turner reached Number 2 with GoldenEye.

Céline Dion scores the highest debut of the week. The French-Canadian singer has already left an enormous legacy on the list. She scored four Number 1-hits, seven Top 10-entries and amassed over 500,000 points on the list. Her best-scoring single to date is Think Twice; the song spent five weeks at Number 1, earned a 2 x Platinum-certification and amassed over 130,000 points. This year, Céline Dion enjoyed a Top 10-hit with Tell Him alongside Barbra Streisand. Céline Dion returns with The Reason, taken from her newest album “Let’s Talk About Love”. The song debuts at Number 23 this week.
