The Top 3 remains in locked positions, Sabrina Carpenter once again leading the pack

Sabrina Carpenter and the top spot are back together, and if that’s true, that means Sabrina now gets a fourth week at Number 1 with “Taste”. She has been dominating 2024 incredibly well – “Taste” is her third consecutive Number 1-hit this year. It has an infectious hook and a killer music video, starring Scream queen Jenna Ortega as a Camila Cabello stand-in, and heavily draws inspiration from classics such as Death Becomes Her. Sabrina Carpenter her reign is threatened though, as Dutch duo Froukje and S10 both remain at second place with their kiss off-anthem “Ik Haat Hem Voor Jou”, while Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars remain nearby in third place with their ex-Number 1 “Die with a Smile”.

Charli XCX and Troye Sivan first collaborated in 2018 on “1999”, a fun little throwback hit that made it up to #20. A relatively minor hit, “1999” did mark a turning point in both artists’ careers. It was the first of Charli’s more dance-oriented hits on my list and paved the way for her future releases, while it was Troye his biggest hit until “Rush” and “Got Me Started” overtook. They now collaborate again on “Talk, Talk”, both coming off their biggest career era’s so far. Charli went Top 10 with “Apple” and “360” during the viral Brat summer, even bagging a Number 1 with Lorde, while Troye Sivan scored three consecutive Top 10-hits with his singles off Something To Give Each Other. With Brat summer coming to a close, “Talk, Talk” scratches the Top 10 just in time at #9 this week. They are not alone though! Dua Lipa joins as a cameo voice message whilst on holiday, talking in Spanish and French. It marks Charli XCX her eleventh Top 10-hit, while Troye Sivan earns his fourth. Its success is boosted by their co-headlining Sweat Tour. Also profiting off the Sweat success, is Addison Rae, who joined them in New York to sing “Diet Pepsi”, up at #5 this week.

This time last year, Tate McRae dominated my chart with the Noughties-infused “Greedy”. It held that position for six big weeks, ultimately becoming the young Canadian star her best-scoring single yet. It was then followed by the album Think Later and the single “Exes”, which reached #4 – would’ve been #2 if it wasn’t for those pesky Christmas songs. Then, in an odd career decision, no other singles were released. A year later, she returns with “It’s OK I’m OK”, which feels like Think Later’s spiritual third single. Not quite the runaway hit like “Greedy”, it slowly peaks at #10 this week, boosted by an iconic music video. It earns Tate McRae her fifth Top 10-hit on my personal chart.

The Little Mix girls have been steadily building their solo careers. All four members scored a Number 1 with their debut singles, but their sophomore efforts failed to stick the landing. So far, Leigh-Anne’s “My Love” is the only second solo single to be moderately successful, debuting at #3. Perrie’s “Tears” fumbled about, while Jesy Nelson’s “Bad Thing” sunk like a stone after its debut. Enter, JADE, whose debut “Angel of My Dreams” ranks as the best-scoring solo Little Mix-hit to date. She now lines up a nice little promo single to keep her fanbase engaged with “Midnight Cowboy” – featuring a cameo by Ncuti Gatwa. It earns the highest debut of the week at #12. Mind you, this is not the official follow-up to “Angel of My Dreams” yet, although JADE assured fans the wait won’t be long. Perrie her return is also imminent, set to release her third solo single next week.

One of the most enduring musical stars of all time, is, the unstoppable Kylie Minogue. The Aussie star has been in my personal Top 40 since charting began – 1995’s “Put Yourself in My Place”! – and has not left since. Between the 2000s and last year, she racked up eight Number 1s, including the megahit “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and the revival “Padam, Padam”. She ranks as one of the biggest of all time. This week, she returns with “Lights, Camera, Action” as the lead single to her upcoming new album Tension II, the sequel to last year’s comeback record. The original Tension revived Kylie back into the mainstream with the queer hit “Padam, Padam”. On my own chart, the title track also became a Top 10-smash over the holiday period. Whether the sequel album will be equally successful, we will have to wait and see. So far, “Lights, Camera, Action” is off to a worse start, debuting at a respectable #17, while “Padam, Padam” entered at #3.

Further down, American newcomer Gigi Perez debuts at #32 with “Sailor Song”, a heartfelt song that recently went viral on TikTok. The song recently debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the young singer-songwriter her first ever charting entry. Dutch folk singer Yves Berendse lines up the follow-up to his big national hit “Terug In De Tijd” with the disco-inspired “Alleen Met Jou”. His previous song topped the national Dutch charts for multiple weeks, becoming 2024’s big summer song, however, on my own chart, it barely cracked the Top 30. On the new “Alleen Met Jou”, Yves Berendse is joined by “Pa Olvidarte”-singer Emma Heesters. She has been steadily scoring Top 40-hits since her debut back in 2019, yet they are mostly all collaborations, most notably with Kris Kross Amsterdam, Ronnie Flex and Rolf Sanchez.
