Lana Del Rey is this years winner for the biggest song of 2023 with her surprise release from the vault “Say yes to heaven” which spent 5 non-consecutive weeks at no.1 on my chart in 2023. In fact she has 2 songs within the top 50 (including her duet with Taylor Swift) and 6 songs overall in the top 100 to go with a no.1 album this year.
Taylor Swift has the runner up spot with “Cruel Summer”. Another surprise viral hit from her previous album such is the change in the charts that any old song could be a future hit. It spent 3 weeks at no.1. 2023 has been Taylor’s year with multiple number 1 albums and in total she bags 8 songs within the top 50 and 14 songs within the top 100 of the year.
P!nk has the 3rd biggest hit of 2023 (and in my opinion a very underrated hit this year) with “Trustfall” which seemed to hang forever in the top 20 earlier this year. It also spent 3 weeks at no.1, together with her having a no.1 album and 2 songs in the top 100 of the year.
SZA has the 4th biggest song of 2023 and other than Taylor Swift, you could also say that 2023 has been SZA’s year where she has 3 singles in the top 10 of the year (more than any other artist) with “Snooze” leading the pack at no.4 spending over 30 weeks in the top 40. It took a while to reach the summit but once there, it spent 3 non consecutive weeks at the top. SZA has in fact achieved 7 weeks at no.1 spread across 3 songs all taken from her massive “SOS” album which spent 8 non consecutive weeks at the top and still remains in the top 10 album chart 1 year after its release!
Raye has the 5th biggest song of 2023 with “Escapism”, and it was actually released at the end of 2022. She has also had a great year with a no.1 album on my chart and 3 songs within the top 50 of the end of year chart.
Other shout outs for this year include;
- Libianca. who became the first afrobeats artist to have a no.1 song on my chart with “People”. The viral hit became the 6th biggest song the year.
- Loreen, proving that she can have not one but two hit Eurovision singles with “Tattoo” ending up as the 9th biggest song of 2023. Interestingly, her previous hit “Euphoria” also ends the year in the top 100!
- Kylie Minogue who proves that she can still create big tunes. “Padam Padam” her no.1 hit single narrowly missed out on the top 10 of the year.
- There were several posthumous hits this year including from Sinead O’Connor and Tina Turner who both make the top 50 end of the year charts with their biggest hits “nothing compares 2 u” and “The best” respectively.
