Chart

James' Top 40 - May 20, 2015

New #1!

Notes:

  • Cold War Kids gain their first #1 with "First" going atop for its first week on the chart (had to lol). This wasn't looking like it could best the peaks of "All This Could Be Yours" (#2) and "Go Quietly" (#4), but it was able to make quick and steady gains all the way to the top. This looks like it'll hold the top spot for awhile, with the only immediate challenger being "A Taste of Silver" (1-2) taking back over.
  • "My Type" climbs into the Top 5, going 6-5 for a new peak. This one is starting to slow down, but it could still find a way to the top.
  • CRUISR scores their first Top 10 with "All Over" jumping 13-9 for a new peak. This one has been a pleasant surprise, as it didn't look like it could do much at first, but this has seen positive updates every week, except for one, its whole chart run.
  • "Halo" makes a huge gain this week, putting up a +11 play increase, good for a 20-13 jump for a new peak. This has Top 10 written all over it as the next 3 above it are easy to pass. This will look to do better than "Carnivore" (#10), as it already looks like it will.
  • "Crave" pounces into the Top 20, going 24-17 for a new peak. This one looks like a future #1, but it will have to take a little time to get there. If it was released at the same time it premiered, this more than likely would have been Top 3 by now. "Freedom" (26-21) falls under the same boat, except it would be Top 10.
  • Until the Ribbon Breaks scores another Top 20 with "Pressure" climbing 22-20 for a new peak. "Perspective" is residing in the Top 10, going 10-7 this week. Neither are looking like #1s at the moment, but both should peak pretty similar (guessing right inside, or just shy of the Top 5).
  • With Cold War Kids handling the top, they have another one climbing rapidly as "Thunder Hearts" storms 33-26 for a new peak. They have a Top 5 streak of 3 songs so far, and this looks like it could become a Top 5 with time. It'll likely start slowing down soon, but whether or not it surpasses that is up in the air.
  • "Good Thing" takes a strong debut this week at #28, with a 25 play debut. 9 plays came from prior to this week, but it took in 16 plays the past two days and is gearing up for a huge move next week. This one could be an underdog and find its way to the top in the future. This Sage's second chart entry, first as a main artist, following his feature on Flo Rida's "GDFR" (#14). Sage also saw On the Rise as a main artist with "Gas Pedal". This is Nick's third entry, as it follows "Jealous" (#19) and "Numb" (#15) ("Chains" also saw On the Rise action).
  • Royal Blood scores their first chart entry with "Little Monster" coming in at #37. They saw On the Rise with both "Out of the Black" and "Figure It Out". "Out of the Black" actually could have been a huge chart hit had I bought it earlier than I did. I always forgot to buy it, so when I finally did, I was starting to get into "Figure It Out". "Figure It Out" could have benefitted from the extension, but missed out by a few weeks. This one will look to be a big hit though, as I have been getting real into it lately.
  • Two more debuts come in at the bottom of the chart: "Bitches N Marijuana" at #38, and "Two Hands Up" at #40.
  • We say goodbye to the 4-week #1 "She Keeps Me Up", as it takes a slide from #36. This has been on a downward spiral for awhile now, so it's finally out of it's misery. Nickelback now has two songs on the chart, but both should be here for awhile. This doesn't get a memorial service just because of how bad it did after it fell from the top.
