The Spice Girls celebrate a second week at Number 1

The Spice Girls celebrate a second consecutive week at Number 1 with Viva Forever. The single is the girls’ ninth chart-topper, following other successes such as Too Much and Stop. The song is becoming another international hit for the Spice Girls, rapidly climbing the charts worldwide. The single is certainly aided by Geri Halliwell’s departure from the group, as most critics call it a “goodbye to Ginger”. The Spice Girls face small competition from Billie Piper with her chart-topper Because We Want To, seeking to reclaim the crown position, but the Spice Girls maintain a strong front.

Aside from success with the Spice Girls, Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown achieves a huge feat as a soloist. She steps into the Top 10 with I Want You Back alongside Missy Elliott. The single marks her first ever solo song to reach the Top 10. The song is Missy Elliott her second Top 10-hit, following Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix) alongside Lil’ Kim in October 1997. Melanie Brown is the first Spice Girl to release solo material, although Geri Halliwell was the first to actually leave the group. Melanie Brown has not left the Spice Girls at any means and will work on the girls’ upcoming third album. I Want You Back appears to become a big hit on its own, peaking at Number 8 this week.

Ilse DeLange jumps into the Top 10 with I’m Not So Tough. The singer is becoming a national sensation in the Netherlands with her debut album “World of Hurt”. The album received critical acclaim by the Dutch press and expected to score a high debut on the Album Top 100. Its lead single I’m Not So Tough is a commercial success, becoming Ilse DeLange her breakthrough. On this list, the single becomes Ilse DeLange her first entry in the Top 10. The song peaks at Number 10 this week.

Aerosmith scores the highest debut of the week. Aerosmith is a highly popular rock band from the United States and have scored big international hits since 1970. The group is seen as one of the most influential music acts of all time, having released million-selling albums and singles. The group now releases I Don't Want To Miss A Thing from the “Armageddon”-soundtrack. Armageddon is a new popular film starring Bruce Willis, which is one of the highest-grossing films of 1998 so far. The single makes a spectacular debut on this list, entering at Number 19 this week.

2Pac receives a Gold Certification for his posthumous single Do For Love. The single peaked at Number 3 after ten week-climb, matching California Love as his highest-peaking single to date. The single currently enters its fourteenth week on the list, not leaving any time soon. The song is his second best-scoring single on this list, only behind California Love. As of this week, 2Pac his song has amassed over 40,000 points.
