The Spice Girls successfully hold at Number 1 for a sixth consecutive week

The Spice Girls celebrate a sixth week at Number 1 with Goodbye. The hit single is their first ever release without Geri Halliwell in the group. The Spice Girls now have spent fifty-eight huge weeks above the list, more than any other act on this list. The Spice Girls their longest-running chart-topper remains Wannabe, which spent eleven non-consecutive weeks with the crown. In this week, the Spice Girls face strong competition from Acda en de Munnik, whom reach the second position with Het Regent Zonnestralen.

Bryan Adams and Melanie C step into the Top 10 with When You’re Gone. The collaboration marks Bryan Adams his second Top 10-hit following Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman? in 1995. The new single marks Melanie C her first solo hit aside from her releases with the Spice Girls. Melanie C is not the first Spice Girl to release independent music though; Melanie Brown preceded her with I Want You Back last year. Bryan Adams and Melanie C prove to be a fruitful combination, as When You’re Gone peaks at Number 9 this week.

Jay-Z steps into the Top 10 with Hard Knock Life. The single marks rapper Jay-Z his first debut on the list, although he has been a success in the United States for a while. The new song marks the rapper’s international breakthrough. Jay-Z his single is a modified version of the same song from the 1977 musical “Annie”. On this list, Hard Knock Life finally peaks at Number 10 after a six week-climb.

German DJ ATB scores the highest debut of the week. It has been some time since German acts have had success on this list. The last true German successes were Mr. President and Captain Jack, whom both topped the charts in 1996. Producer ATB marks a new success. The single 9 PM (Till I Come) is released as his debut single and the lead single from his debut album “Movin' Melodies”. This week, ATB debuts at Number 22.

Brandy receives a Gold Certification for her Top 10-hit Have You Ever. The single became the teen-singer’s fourth single to peak within the Top 10. The ballad was hugely aided by the buzz of her previous Number 1-hit The Boy Is Mine and her role in the horror film “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”. Subsequently, Have You Ever peaked at Number 3. As of this week, the single has amassed over 40,000 points.

The Vengaboys receive a Platinum Certification for their hit chart-topper Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! The single became another big hit for the Dutch group, following previous singles Up & Down and The Vengabus. The song spent two weeks above the list before they were knocked off the top by the Spice Girls. The chart-topper is the Venagboys’ best-scoring release to date. As of this week, Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! has amassed over 65,000 whopping points.
