7 weeks at #1 for Wolves, Taylor Swift & Camila Cabello songs surge
Is it getting old news? "Wolves" by Selena Gomez and Marshmello spends a 7th week at #1 and an 8th week charting. "Wolves" has to spend just one more week at the top until it equals the chart record Gomez currently holds (twice)- most weeks spent at #1. It is unclear when "Wolves" will start to slow down but Gomez and Marshmello are certainly enjoying themselves sitting at the top. While "Wolves" is Gomez's only song on the chart (a first in months!), Marshmello has a new entry at #20 with "Silence" - the chart is book-ended by Marshmello. The song features Khalid who had a hit on the chart not too long ago- this is the second top 20 hit for both Marshmello and Khalid.
Great news for Camila Cabello, after starting outside the top 10 last week, "Never Be The Same" soars to #2- a new chart peak. Cabello has a reputation for getting her songs to #2 but often missing the top spot- "Crying in the Club" and "Bad Things" both peaked at #2, only "Havana" has been able to reach the chart summit. After leaping 10 spots this week, if "Never Be The Same" continues like this it may be running with the "Wolves" in no time. The good news doesn't end here for Cabello - "Real Friends" starts at #13. If this song performs similarly to Cabello's "Never Be The Same", it could be sitting in the top 3 this time next week. Cabello's mega-hit "Havana", featuring Young Thug, is a re-entry this week, placing at #9. This marks the songs 15th non-continuous week on the chart (after it debuted and peaked at #1 back in August).
One name has been on everybodies minds for the latter half of 2017- Taylor Swift. This week is a good one for Swift as 3 of her songs have achieved 'hit' status after spending 5 weeks on the chart. Rumoured to be the next song to get the single treatment off of "reputation", "End Game" featuring Ed Sheeran and Future is this week's biggest climber as it soars 12 places to #3. This is a new peak for the song. "End Game" is a very likely contender for #1. On this week's top 20, Swift also has "Delicate" at #7 (re-entry), "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" at #8 (up two spots), "I Did Something Bad) at #10 (down one), "Don't Blame Me" at #11 (down a steeper 5) and "Look What You Made Me Do" at #17. Time seems to be almost up for "LWYMMD" as it is this week's biggest faller, dropping 13 places. Swift is still owning the chart though with 6 songs all by her...as a lead artist!
After a huge drop last week, the future didn't look good for Little Mix's "Is Your Love Enough?". However, the song seems to of had a change of fortune as it bounces back up the chart, climbing 10 places to #4. After peaking at #2, if the song miraculously gets picked as Little Mix's next single, "Is You Love Enough?" could be a future #1 hit. Someone who was seeming close to a #1 hit last week stepped two places away from that title- Lizzo with "Good as Hell" falls to #5. The song has spent 5 weeks on the chart and this is the first time it has dropped. However, 5 weeks charting also means the song is now a certified 'hit'. Congrats Lizzo! P!nk starts climbing again with "Beautiful Trauma"- the song climbs 2 places to #6 during its 3rd week charting.
This week's highest new entry comes from Louis Tomlinson with "Miss You". The song starts at #12. This is Tomlinson's 3rd entry on the chart after "Back to You" peaked at #10 in July and "Just Hold On" peaked at #3 in January. It may be Tomlinson's lowest chart peak so far but "Miss You" does have the potential to move up in future weeks. Another One Direction alumni, Zayn returns to the chart (bringing Sia along) with "Dusk Till Dawn". This return to the chart is the song's 5th charting week so it is now a certified 'hit'. "Dusk Till Dawn" sits at #15, it peaked at #8 back in September.
Festive songs dominate the bottom section of the chart. "I'll Be Home" by Meghan Trainor starts at #16, One More Sleep by Leona Lewis debuts at #18 and "Santa Tell Me" (my personal favourite) by Ariana Grande is new at #19. If any of these songs have the potential to see major success in the coming weeks, it is Grande's "Santa Tell Me". Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" climbs two spots this week to a new peak of #14.
